What stops you guys from joining the Military?

Lets say you wanted to be an electrician or an engineer or anything really. In the Air Force or Navy for example you could do your trade but get extra qualifications, a good wage, accommodation and food sorted for, experience, a more interesting, unpredictable job, benefits like a pension after it, opportunities to travel the world and take part in events etc..

It sets you up for life even if you're in it for just a few years so what would hold you back? I can't see how a civilian job can overpower all that. You can come back to civilian life and get a normal job and start normal life after your few years. It can be in a way a sort of college/apprenticeship setting you up for life.

I was just speaking to my mate who wants to be an electrician and told him to look into being one in the Royal Air Force or something and it really makes sense.

This is why a lot of people don't even consider the military due to ignorance. They assume any role in the Military means you'll probably be getting shot at. You can be so many things the majority of the jobs won't even see you in a dangerous area. An ICT specialist for example. You will just be doing a normal ICT style job but getting the benefits that come with being in the Military.

    I'm a software developer.

Joining the military would not help me be a better software developer. I needed/wanted a college degree, so I wouldn't have enlisted until after college. By then I was living with my girlfriend; joining the military would mean not living with her anymore. I'd be sent to wherever without any control or input. I'd be expected to kill people and I'd be put in situations where people would want to kill me.

There just wasn't much reason for me to do it.

think about living with your parents and make $25,000 a yr. its like that. 25,000 is a lot when you're only paying for a car, gas, and mybe a cell phone.

I suppose for older people who have already achieved some good qualifications it isn't as appealing. But for younger people doing a trade through the Military is ideal. They will become more mature and disciplined from it and get all the benefits listed above.

Precisely. Your wage is hardly touched so it will build up very fast. But to be honest depending which role you go in as some of the wages are similar to civilian equivalent jobs.

    Refer to the join/war comment.

Too bad Bush wont be in office if you start the enlistment process now.

I went in the Marines, got my degree afterwards, and now have my own 3D Animation / web development studio with the 60k+, insurance, medicare, etc. I don't see how it's not possible as long as you set goals for yourself.

    Honestly?

I would have to say my own idea of self worth. I wouldn't ever risk dying for 100k left alone a measly 25k. It's just not worth it, plus not being able to see your family.

Especially with people being shipped off to Iraq.

    (no military promoter)

It sets you up for the rest of your life with a proper plan.

    1. I'm going to college for free
    2. I learned leadership, how to manage others, how to train others, discipline, etc
    3. Veteran status is worth it's weight in gold.
    4. Pride in serving your country defending the rights and freedoms we enjoy
    5. You get so much in pay and bennies on par or better than the private sector
    6. Brothers and sisters for life
    7. The power of your uniform gets you discounts, free beer, etc.
    8. Skills for your field or related fields.
    9. Although you travel you get time on your own to explore different cultures.
    10. On base gyms are free

I don't believe in any reason for not joining short of a mental or physical disability. "I can't joing" is a cope out piss poor bull**** excuse most of the time it's simply ignorance

When you turn 18 you're a man do what you want.

If anyone has ANY questions about the military, USMC or joining PM me

This is why a lot of people don't even consider the military due to ignorance. They assume any role in the Military means you'll probably be getting shot at. You can be so many things the majority of the jobs won't even see you in a dangerous area. An ICT specialist for example. You will just be doing a normal ICT style job but getting the benefits that come with being in the Military.
    .....the majority

also alot of people are againts the goals of our militia, it would be contradictile (is that a workd)to their beliefs if they joined the forces

You must realize though only a very small percentage of the Military personnel are put in life threatening situations. Obviously if you join as some form of soldier you will be. But joining as an ICT specialist or general technician for example you are pretty much always going to be in a safe controlled environment just doing your job like you would be on civi street.

because im still thinking about it.
True love is hard to find, sometimes you think you have true love and then you catch the early flight home from San Diego and a couple of nude people jump out of your bathroom blindfolded like a goddamn magic show ready to double team your girlfriend...
