ITT: I aware you on a FOOLPROOF way to learn a language in THREE MONTHS (srs) (GTFIH)

Forget Rosetta Stone, forget all those programs that cost insane amounts of money. In this thread I will teach you how to obtain conversational fluency in 2-3 months tops. This plan only applies for Spanish, German, Italian, French or Portuguese at the moment. You should be at the 301 college level upon completion, possibly higher (using the 101,102,201,202 system). This process utilizes using 2 FREE websites/iphone apps, one is an incredibly addicting game format and the other uses memory manipulation.

Step 1: Pick one of the 5 languages above
Step 2: Sign up for Duolingo.com (also if you have an iphone they have an amazing iphone app, they are both synced together)
Step 3: Sign up for memrise.com

Step 4: Begin taking Duolingo classes through their game format, it starts out easy but gets much more difficult.
Step 5: Supplement Duolingo with memrise.com alongside it.
Step 6: Practice every day, go through the levels get the achievements and do NOT take day breaks.

Duoling provides everything, verbs/nouns/cases conjugation etc, while memrise is a fast learning index card format. They are both revolutionary in the language learning world and by using Duolingo and supplementing your learning with memrise you will become conversationally fluent in 3 months or less. This is assuming you take it somewhat seriously, although even if you didn't you would still be impressed with the results.

If you have any questions on this system ask away! I speak Russian fluently from double majoring in college and I am currently learning German. I fully completed Duolingo and memrise for German.

- This is the FASTEST and most FUN way to learn a language quickly. There are other programs out there but these are the best in terms of efficiency.
- For all other languages people keep mentioning ITT check out Livemocha.com but the romance and germanic languages are NOT free on this website

I've tried Pimsleur, huge waste of money. I've been on the hunt for free programs for months and I came to the conclusion that Duolingo is the best for the moment, I could be wrong though. What is Michael Thomas?

German was surprisingly easier than I thought. It's almost identical to English.

Why Portuguese? Most people have told me to learn Spanish first and the Portuguese will come along easily. Also because Spanish is a more popular language.

My reading/translating is better than my speaking but I'm still working at it. I would say I'm at the 202 level. I used those 2 apps and I read Spiegel.com (German news) and Bloomberg Germany
