If I had a high carb day once a week but kept my calories in a deficit while dieting.

would this help increase leptin levels?
Why do I do this weightlifting thing for the last 34 years with all its ups and downs life has handed me? Because each time I came back stronger. NEVER GIVE UP. Gym life is about more than muscles getting bigger and weights going up. Its wisdom discipline dedication humility you name it.

a refeed will generally put your at maintenance for the day, they dont really do anything unless you are really lean already. Even with a high carb diet ive never needed one until i was around 10-11% at the highest.
There is always someone less fortunate, with real hunger, with real adversity, who made something of themselves. What is your excuse?

i would keep carbs as high as possible then every day, especially rest days. 1g protein per lb of lbm and .45g of fat is enough to maintain what you have, id definitely fill the rest with carbs. I have no data because im not a scientist, but i always see those who stall have a very low carb intake and their maintenance plummets.

You need to go over maintenance on refeed day. By keeping carbs up and fat low (~50g) you minimise the chance of the fat actually from being stored.

Im curious as to where this "research" is
Lyle Mcdonald writes plenty about leptin and hes one of the more knowledgable guys out there.
I think the summary on Leptin is probably 99% of the "facts" on Leptin on bull**** blown out of proportion or based on rats or extreme diets or something stupid.
Calories in calories out is the name of the game.
High carbing it one day a week isnt going to do anything magical for leptin levels or anything like that. It will help restore glycogen, as thats what your body does with carbohydrates.

He has 6 articles total on leptin, and if you are truly interested knock yourself out.
The end of the day if you want to lose weight cut your calories. All this other crap doesnt matter unless youre talking about competing at a high level, or are getting into the truly elite categories of physiqueness

Referenced in the 6 part article that Lyle wrote.
TBH, if Lyle is saying it is needed, I'll take is word for it. He's forgotten more about nutrition than I'll ever know.
OP - leptin levels are highly dependendant on bodyfat. General guidelines (from Lyle) are that if you are above 15% BF, you don't need a refeed for physiological reasons. You won't have the hormonal issues. Might help with diet compliance, but that is all.
As you get leaner, the need to reefed can occur. How much and how frequent tends to vary by individual. Some lean guys are doing 2 high carb days back to back (again, according to Lyle).
