There is also a difference for someone bulking who needs to put on 10, 20, 30 lbs of LBM and someone who may just be trying to add 3 or 4 lbs to certain areas. I dont see guys like Jay trying to gain substantial size when contest weight is already the highest in the line up. Jay might only need a 200 calorie surplus to add very slowly and stay lean. Some up and comers might be going for 1000 or even more of a surplus to put on more lbm and deal with the fat after. It still doesnt make sense that his needs are lower when bulking, I wouldnt be surprised if they are compareable, but lower... Most bodybuilders troll like crazy, or just make blanket statements, I wouldnt trust much of what they say unless they are working with you. Every statment is correct with certain variables in place, or wrong with others.
Example - Teenagers shouldnt do cardio, or they wont gain (read years ago on bbing.com article)
