In the novel, he did legitimately kill at least two people -- the old bum in the alleyway (and his dog) and a young boy in a public park, though that kill is not included in the movie.
In the film, I assume the bum murder also happened, though like in the book, pretty much every single other murder was completely in his head. However, if you watch the film, during the scene where Chloe Sevigny thumbs through the notebook she takes from Bateman's desk, you'll see a number of grotesque and violent drawings. Each of those drawings is an image from the book, depicting the numerous atrocities Bateman imagines himself committing.

yep he did. The give away is when he goes back to the apartment and the lady tells him to get lost, to never come back and never to ask any questions. That aggressiveness right there is indicative of the fact she knew exactly what he was looking for. The point of the movie is they live (we) in a totally contrived society built upon social standards that take away any genuineness and integrity from our actions.
She was willing to put the fact her brother was murdered to rest, simply because she knew that alerting the authorities would make it a prerequisite to inform any potential buyers of the unit that a murder had occurred there, in turn effecting the price it would of sold for, and lessening her financial gain.

Yes he did, the movie is about how materialistic society is and how it was blatantly obvious that he was killing people but no one wanted to do anything about it because it was inconvenient to them. For example the realtor trying to sell the apartment had the murder scene cleaned up just so she could make a buck.

this.
yuppie culture ruining life.
so many examples. the jared leto guy mistakes bateman for some other guy and insults bateman cuz jared leto doesnt know hes actually talking to bateman in the conference room. shows he doesnt care about ppl
talking about business cards. ppl all obsessive about cards..and everyones was the exact same, white with plain lettering. everyone suited with slicked hair.
its just showing that nobody cares about others at all. they are self absorbed want to only make themselves perfect.
thats why bateman does that crazy morning routine.
so he confesses to that doctor guy or whoever at the end. but since nobody cares (literally at all) he doesnt even listen to bateman confessing to murder. he thinks hes joking/just doesnt give a chit.
anyways it can be inferred either way from the movie. but it does have a message about yuppie culture and how everyones self absorbed.

there is a level of absurdity/surrealism in the movie that makes it purposefully ambiguous.
doesn't really take anything way from the movie regardless if he did nor not.

everything is real. the book gives a clearer picture of it actually happening. also, the author has stated that it was real during interviews so there really isn't even room for debate.

^^^ from imdb
Bret Easton Ellis has pointed out that if none of the murders actually happened, the entire point of the novel would be rendered moot. As with the practical theories regarding the Carnes conversation, the outbursts and the empty apartment, interpreting the murders as real is part of the film's social satire. Ellis has stated that the novel was intended to satirize the shallow, impersonal mindset of yuppie America in the late 1980s, and part of this critique is that even when a cold blooded serial killer confesses, no one cares, no one listens and no one believes. The fact that Bateman is never caught and that no one believes his confession just reinforces the shallowness, self-absorption, and lack of morality that they all have. None of them care that he has just confessed to being a serial killer because it just doesn't matter; they have more important things to worry about. In Bateman's superficial high-class society, the fact that even his open confession to multiple murders is ignored serves to reinforce the idea of a vacuous, self-obsessed, materialistic world where empathy has been replaced by apathy. By extension then, this could be read as a condemnation of corporations in general; they too tend get away with murder (in a figurative sense) and most people just choose to ignore it, just as do Bateman's associates. In this sense then, Bateman serves as a metaphor, as do the very real murders. If the murders were purely in his head, the strong social commentary would be undermined and the film would become a psychological study of a deranged mind rather than a social satire.

yes he did. The director has commented on it saying she never intended for this to be questioned. It was just taken by people that way.

Breton Ellis also said he wasn't pleased with the movie's portrayal of the book because of this issue. Although I enjoyed both the book and movie, the remake will hopefully do a better job of providing an accurate depiction of the book's themes.

The original was great, they won't find an actor as good as Bale for the role, it's just a cash in lol

read some things about a remake being proposed. the writer of the book is actually behind it. and he gave a couple suggestions for the new bateman. one was a boyfriend of a kardashian. wtf must be trolling.
and they want to remake it in todays time in nyc instead of the 80s. it worked well with the yuppie culture back then. today it wouldnt be the same. writing better be epic on chris nolans level or it will suck

There should be no remake. The original is perfect as is.
