    Smile 118 pounds later

Hey folks, I'm new to the board and just wanted to say hello.

Back in 2009, I had a picture of me taken with my daughter on her 4th birthday (it is viewable on my profile page). At the time it was taken, I weighed 315 pounds at 6' tall. My BMI was well over 40 and I was morbidly obese. Soon after that event, my little girl was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes and our lives were changed forever. I realized that I couldn't set a good health example if I continued on the path I was on so I decided to make some changes. I didn't take any pills, didn't have surgery, follow any diet plan or pay for some weight loss club membership. All I did was count calories and go to the gym.

    Simple breakdown..

    Reduce and log calorie intake.
Break down meals between 5-6 times a day.
    Increase physical activity.

The physical activity was the tricky part. I started off carefully at the gym. I was mostly doing cardio, such as the elliptical or some version of the stair climber

I still ate my fruity pebbles, chocolate or other food. The key was moderation. Count your calories and try to not eat anything bigger than your fist.
Today I just weighed in at 197 and fit in to a 32 waist. Couldn't be happier. My daughter reminds me frequently of when I was fat, and I'm proud to be her father and can set a good example for health.

    Count calories
    Move
    Moderation

    The keys to success

Nice work my man. Kids as motivators are the best kind of never ending.

    Great job.

"Count calories, move, moderation". It really is this simple and once we get used to it I think we probably all wonder how we weren't doing it before.
