I do 1/2 hour on non training days, usually elliptical fasted in the morning, aim for 300 calories.

For spring cut I'll do it on training days also, and train for a 5k or 2.
Don't put that on me Ricky Bobby, don't you ever put that on me.

I was a cardio overdoer. Now I walk the neighborhood on my off days. I put on my headphones and enjoy the stars and the cold air. I also run up all hills. Very therapeutic. Then back to the house with the screaming children.

I like walking at night too, especially in the spring/summer, but I still do it occasionally in the fall/winter.

that to 30-35 minutes at 4.0 mph averaging 11-12% incline**. Sometimes I'll alternate running with incline walking

I used to do cardio after weight training, but lately I switched that around and noticed that I feel looser, more

    I weigh approx. 160lb, I take 145lb and squat (deep knee bends), I squat for approx. 30reps, I then add 22lb 167lb I go for 30-squats.

I then add 10lb 187lb, I then do romanian deadlifts, or standing on 5" platform, I go for 30reps, using a doubleoverhand grip.

The heartrate stays high the entire time, and for at least 15mins when finished.

I do this once every 3-weeks, The goal is to work-up to 40reps at each exersice.

My grip on the deads gets stronger each time, if the grip starts to fail, I just sit bar down and regrip, man that is a forearm PUMP baby!!!

yep, thats cardio, and strength training.

MWF - 35 minutes on the Treadmill - 7 cycles (4 minutes of walking at 4.2, Incline 2 followed by 1 minute of jogging at 5.2, Incline 0) for CV Health. Don't consider my 10 minute warm-ups or 15 minute cool-downs on lifting days as cardio. Watch movies on an I-Pad and ignore the individual or overhead large TVs.

I used to hate my treadmill, but I crank the tunes and enjoy working up a little sweat now. I kinda look forward to doing it, at least 30 minutes a day and take off Sundays. It just makes me feel better I guess. I'll look at jogging or mixing it up somehow come summer.

I find when I do intervals on the treadmill, it makes the time go much faster. For example, right now, I'll start out at 7% incline for two minutes, then 9% for two minutes, then keep repeating that pattern (all at 4.0 mph) till I get to 20-26 minutes, then for cool down, I lower the incline to 5% @ 3.8 mph (At this point I'm soaking in endorphins and I could go for another hour at the cool down pace just lost in my thoughts...of course
I don't because I have to get to weight room, but on my days off, I've been known to indulge).

Any one frequently repeated aspect of running gets old for me. If I run the same loop around my house, the same trails at the park, the same intensity on a treadmill and too many interval sessions. So I do one variation till I get tired of it then move on to another.

I don't do any. I've steadily lost 60lbs by lifting 4 times a week and taking control of the diet. Cardio didn't seem to make any difference to my progress, so I dropped it.

not to hijack the thread, but similar question- if you are going to do 40 min of cardio whether you like it or not, is it better to go hard or medium. I usually get my heart going at 170 for 40 min or so, now I'm stayin g around 140 for those 40 min. I sweat less, and I don't feel dead, but I don't get the huge endorphin blast 10 min later either.

Cardio will generally lead to better overall fitness long before it will be a key factor for weight loss.

For me personally, I just lift weights faster..... srs.

BUT when training others that are using cardio for fat loss I recommend 20-35 minutes AFTER weight training. I believe the theory that the first 20 minutes are to get the fat stores burning. So, if you only go 20 min, you get the heart up, but not the fat burning. Doing it after lifting reduces the amount of time to hit the fat stores.
I also believe you can burn more fat doing cardio before the first meal of the day than after. I have been told it can be up to 100% more effective.

That is pretty awesome info considering I just hit back and tris then ran 2.5 miles all before having anything other than coffee. Needless to say my 1st meal of the day was quite satisfying. I have also heard that doing cardio in a fasted state will dig into fat stores more effectively. Nice to read some validation from someone that definately knows more about fitness and nutrition than I do.

40min of repeated hard cardio is great.....if you're trying to kill your lfting. I do one moderately hard day a week tops. The rest of the time I keep the avg HR 140 and below.
