Unless you go to one of the gyms like I do where olympic lifts are off limits, except deadlifts.
    -110lb x6 DB Bench Press
    -455lb x1 Deadlift
    -300lb x8 Squat
    -160lb x2 EZ Bar Curl

Never tried maxing on anything but deadlift, plan to in a few weeks however.

    Deadlifts aren't an olympic lift.

I doubt anyone would say anything if you simply clean the weight from the ground before your first rep of overhead press. I am near positive they'd get upset if you drop the weights from the rack position, as if they were bumper plates.

Self conscious people need to remember that most of the time other people aren't paying attention to you. No one cares. Just go lift weights man.

I digress, I am so glad I started lifting weights when I was a teen. Starting out sucks.

Bro, I haven't seriously lifted since I was in the army. Gained a lot of fat and lost a lot of muscle since then...The one thing people seem to care about is not how much weight you move, but how good your form is...I just started lifting again, and even though I'm not quite squatting even my body weight again yet, I had a really big dude come over and tell me my form was great and that it's awesome that I do full ROM on my squats. Concentrate on the form, not the weight...oh and haters gon h8, u w0t m8?

It can be annoying if you ever need to do arms or chest and the noobs are crawling over the preacher curl and bench press. But, I think we all had that weak point when we started, they simply don't understand yet. If appropriate, help them out a bit. If the guy has been in the gym for years with huge bis and a big chest, then he just looks like an ass, not a noob.

not everyone has a strong enough core,legs,.... to do power cleans with the same weight as they do overhead press.

i think we all agree that doing deadlifts in the smith machine and doing curl in the power rack is not fair to others who are serious working out. but that its wrong to use the power rack for overhead and military press? come on .

I also do my OHP in the power rack - because I'm already there. Do OHP directly after squats.

Me too. My clean isn't very good, and my grip would be off when it was time to press. If anyone has something to say about me pressing in the rack, they can say it to my face, and I'll tell them to **** off.

If you can't clean (even poorly) the weight you can overhead press, then you have a whole host of other problems to worry about.

I don't care if you do OHP in the rack or not. But if you can't perform an OHP outside of the rack, then it might be time to officially declare yourself a giant pussy. True story.

This. Don't be a retard and you wont get noticed. People will notice someone benching 3 plates with terrible ROM a lot faster than someone benching an empty bar with terrible form.

Don't worry about what a so called "experienced" lifter would think. Everyone starts out somewhere and they should all be able to remember that they too were in your position. When I first started lifting I remember being nervous about my form thinking people would judge it, but it turns out alot of the upper class men were very helpful and would often offer advice on how to get a better stretch and it gave me a good foundation to build from. Now that i'm out of college I find that i prefer to find a gym that has guys who are a lot more developed than I am bc it pushes me harder and a lot of them have a broad wealth of knowledge

I find it annoying when people grab a set of dumbbells and perform an exercise so close to the weight rack that they block other people because they are in the way. I understand everyone starts somewhere and no one gets 18' biceps overnight. Don’t compare how much or what you are lifting to others, just make sure you are being courteous.

What do I think? Usually something like, "Oh. Another one that won't make it. Oh well."

But the thing is, I love being proved wrong (about that). Might be what I assume (because, well, most of the time it's true... ) but still, that doesn't mean I have anything against newbies. Not at all. In fact, if they ever want any help or advice, I'll see what I can do. And there's lots of people, some far more experienced than me, who will also be happy to do so. Something newbies might want to keep in mind.

Often times i'll go up and grab a set of dummbells from right next to them or in front of them and crowd them when they do that.

Yes, the overhead press is always done with strict form. If you use your legs to drive the bar up, it becomes a push press.
