I's been doing cardio again.

All he fucking did for EVERY song we played was a few loud percussive hits.

While I was blowing and jerking off this trombone to some pretty advanced pieces for minutes on end until I was blue in the face. Literally.

And they ALWAYS got the applause break from the crowd.

My mother forced me into band when I was in middle school.

I wanted to play the saxophone, but so did everybody else.

So I got stuck with the trombone.

I played trombone for 4 years.

I was pretty good.

Dave has died.

Huge loss.

Side note: I never learned to read music. I just knew what position you had to put the slide at for what note it was. I didn't know if it was A,E,D or whatever, I knew it as position 1 through 7.
I was not in a band, we had to take it in grade school. Emptying the spit valve onto the carpet was disgusting. I still remember the time my spit valve was stuck open, and I ended up launching spit all over this poor girl in front of me.

But the most brilliant fun I had was playing Christmas themed pieces at Six Flags for a regional band competition.

Even back then I savored the spirit of the season.
