on an unrelated note, i spent like 15 mins yesterday trying to figure out how to have a 0 show up as the first number in excel, just to give up and use a _ before it. i had to do a list of some troop's SSNs and a few of the last four started with 0s.

Put an apostrophe before it. That automatically tells Excel to treat whatever follows in the cell as plain text.

Also, I don't need it to try to auto-format everything.

That is a pet peeve of mine as well. If I want to use bullets or numbering, I'll just click the ****ing bullets/numbering icons, thanks.

Speaking of MS Office, did Bill Gates invent Times New Roman or something? Because no matter how many times I set defaults to something else, Word always tries to revert to TNR.

Try using a Font Utility like Font Nuke to remove the cache files, While Word is quit.

Also do the steps in either of these two links:

Do any/all of these steps while word is quit.

I hate excel. Gotta change the formatting of the entire sheet/work area to "plain text". I used to rage so hard when doing sh*t with serial numbers and it wouldn't let me start with a 0.

Unfortunately only customer service can do it and I don't think they will do it now because too many people were abusing the service.
