Keto safe for an 18yr old?

What's up guys. So this is my first post in this area of bb.com mainly because I want to cut again. I tried bulking and honestly I'm disappointed that I did because I threw away around 45 days of solid training that got myself down to around 167lbs. I now weight my usual 179lbs and am pretty unhappy. But blah, blah, blah I can complain all I want but it's not getting anyone anywhere.

Basically I want to know if keto is safe for an 18y old with a weight maintenance intake of ~3100 cals/day (varies depending on how active I am/day). To lose the maximum recommended (2lbs/week) I need to consume around 2450 cals/day and on keto, that would mean roughly 1650 of them would be fat (65%). I would combime this with regular weight training and running (still have to look into the workouts more spcifically).

I am supposed to grow another 2-3 inches and I really don't want to mess anything up since this is A LOT of fat.

    Thanks in advance.

It's safe. Children with epilepsy are often kept in keto for extended periods of time with no problems.

The "high dietary fats is bad, mmmkay" thing has been completely debunked at this point, not only from keto lovers, but the nutritional community as a whole.

Since you're wanting to maximize your "still growing" potential, I'd worry more about being in calorie deficit.

    Thank you Blackjack68.

And yeah, the calorie deficit would make more sense - part of the reason why I am back to my 'beginning' weight. Wanted too much, too soon.

Just to make sure there isn't a miscommunication.....

I didn't mean "you should be in deficit", I meant that, since you're still growing and wanting to maximize that, being in a calorie deficit (regardless of diet type) could hinder your success. Growing bodies need a surplus to maximize results.

If he's still growing at 18, he must have hit puberty very late. I think it's safe to say he's reached his adult height, and doesn't have to worry about having his growth stunted.
    65% fat, 30% protein, 5% carbs = keto.

No disrespect, but there are tons of people who grow an extra inch or two in college.
