You guys realize we're one Overeem loss away from...
having a weak HW division again?
I mean, if he loses, what happens to Cain then? Rematch with JDS after demolishing him? Rematch with Bigfoot after demolishing him?
At least if Overeem wins, he will keep the title fresh for another 6-8 months while JDS fights again and maybe someone interesting enters the picture like Cormier or Barnett.
Overeem literally has the next 1-2 years of the UFC HW's future riding on his shoulders.
But if he does lose, I do hope they give an immediate title shot to Cormier, even though he's friends with Cain, it would need to happen....unless of course if he refuses and wants to drop to LHW, in which case we're back to square one.

I'm sure I remember an interview with Cormier in which he said that himself and Velasquez would put their friendship aside if a belt were on the line.
Oh and The Reem is going to destroy Bigfoot.

OP, the HW division has a lot of young talent.
Outside of that, Werdum is still dangerous, Mir is too...he may not ever hold a title, but I'm willing to bet Frank will fight for it again. Cormier (obviously, mentioned), but also if Josh Barnett is brought over could be very dangerous. As much as it pains me to say it, Roy Nelson might put enough wins together to challenge...he won't win...but I can see him challenge for the title with the right road to the match.
The HW division isn't Grand Canyon deep, but I don't know if I would call it "weak".

Cain still has a questionable chin it's just a matter of who can stay on the feet and hit it. I don't see Mir/Werdum being much threat. More realistically is that him and JDS remain at the top and have a 5 fight back-and-forth if he wins the 3rd fight. The beginning of the fight before he gassed or got knocked silly, JDS had no problem throwing cain off him and stuffing his TD's.

Na, in all seriousness I like Duffee (he used to fight local shows around here) but if he cracks the top 5 HW I'll be surprised.

I remember cormier saying he'd never fight cain. Thats why he called out jones.

He was at Grudge a couple of years back working with my kru for that 'Reem fight. Needless to say, it didn't go as planned.
He's recently come back and is working with the GTC team again. I'll let you know how he's looking on Friday, assuming he's there working.

Questionable chin is non-existent in the HW division unless you're Brendan Schaub.
Cain got hit with a money shot in the temple that'll drop anyone. Do you not remember all the shots he took against Kongo?

How come it never seems like divisions are weak? Just watch some more commercials OP, haven't you heard of knockout artist Mike Russow?
For these reasons, and many more, we have a lot to look forward to, in the world's most heaviestest division!!!

Movie Buff
Daniel Cormier and possibly Josh Barnett,Werdum etc.
So if the champ is way better than the rest the division is weak like lhw,lw,mw?

no, if only 3-4 guys are way better than the rest of the division, one is the champ, one of them just lost to the champ, the other probably won't fight the champ and the other is Overeem
Mir, Werdum, Nog, Barnett, Bigfoot, Nelson don't deserve a title shot unless they each get like 2 more really impressive wins, and they can't be over scrubs, they have to be against each other and/or someone in their league or above
and I guess the proper word I should have used is 'stagnant' HW division, instead of weak...but you get the point by now

I don't understand this comment. Badr Hari is the same size as the rest of the guys in the heavy weight division. And the last time size didn't matter in mma was 15 years ago.

Implying he'll just waltz right into the UFC HW championship picture. Because Spong is already competing for the belt, right?

The HW div. has always been on the thin side compared to other divisions, but it's far from weak today.
Who here remembers when Tim Sylvia was the 2 time champ and we only had Monson left to challenge him? Monson was paid $13,000 for that title fight and there was nobody left to challenge for the title until Couture came out of retirement and put him on his arse, all the good HW's were in PRIDE at the time. Tim Frickin Sylvia, guys, he was the champ, that should tell you how weak the div used to be.
I'm not saying we should kill all the stupid and lazy people, just that we should eliminate warning labels and welfare, let the problem take care of itself.

I think Justin Eilers fighting for the belt was a lower point honestly, but you're right: that was a dark era for the HW division.

Jon jones could clear out most of the hw division right now with no bulk. Given 1-2 years he could be unbeatable at hw.
