Does anybody know if taking vegan protein will give you the same benefits as regular whey protein? I'm not currently on vegan protein, I'm just asking because I've been getting a lot of hype from people saying that taking any kind of whey protein isnt good for you because of all the perservitives it has.

Well there is soy and hemp protein, but they don't get nearly the praise as does whey, casein, or albumein.

Vegan protein has preservatives as well. Just about anything in powdered form will. You have to also think to yourself, "Am I on a no preservative diet?" Honestly, just about all foods beside the ones from your local organic whole foods store has some sort of preservative. You're going to ingest them somehow.. :/

vegan proteins that are flavored may have preservatives and other additives as well. If you're concerned about those ingredients, best bet is to use unflavored whey protein--the ingredient is just whey (and small amount of soy lecithin as an emulsifier).

You want a protein that has a complete amino acid profile. Unfortunately many vegan sources (soy, brown rice, ect) are not "complete proteins" like whey or casein. The only two vegan sources that are complete proteins that I am aware of are pea protein and hemp protein. I've heard 100% pea protein tastes pretty disgusting, not sure about hemp.

Although not "vegan", egg based protein has a 100% bio avalability rating. Better compared to whey.

Spirulina is also a pretty cool vegan option. It just crossed my mind...

I tried some samples of SAN RAW (vegan protein), was pretty good, had the vanilla. Since I'm not vegan though I couldn't justify the price (it's cheap for a vegan protein, but expensive compared to whey).

Yes reread my message... My statement came across wrong. I understand vegan protein is for vegans, and didn't mean my statement to sound as if it was completely pointless. I have just seen a ton of people use vegan proteins unnecessarily because its "supposed" to be so much better for you. Just meant I do not see the necessity in these situations.
