What's a good weight set for a beginner?

Currently I have a 15 pound bar, and about 100 pounds of mismatched weights LOL.

    Anyone recommend a good set?

Not looking to break the bank, maybe some 300 pound olympic set would be good. But what i've seen they are like $300+?
    >$200 would be great if anyone can point me to one.

    Thanks!

You aren't going to find commercially available weights for much less than 1 dollar per pound.

If you go on craigslist you might be able to find some second hand sets for 200 bucks

The man above speaks the truth!

Just pick a good amount to start with. That way, you can get a good bar that won't bend under 800 lbs; and build a savage weight set over time.

    Go get'm, tiger!

Kind of wish I'd started with an Oly set, my cheap ass barbell is 3 pieces held together by screws and it's pretty loose and wobbly, I can't imagine putting much over 150 on it.

What's a good weight set for a beginner?

A SECONDHAND 300lb set. You might want to buy more plates when you start to get strong.

Always go secondhand if you can. They don't get lighter no matter how old or dinged and rusty they are. And you can always paint them red to fire things up.

A 100lb set will do while you are saving up. When you are stronger it will still be useful for little stuff.
    Beginners:

Beyond novice, 5 3 1 or see above:)

Unless it is obvious to anyone who isn't blind that you lift weights, you might still benefit from a little more attention to big basic barbell exercises for enough reps:).

As others have said. Hit up craigslist and buy 2nd hand. You can get weights for half the price (or more than half) of buying brand new.
