How much should you be able to lift based on weight ?

In order to determine whether or not you are at least some what strong does anybody know what some decent numbers would be for the following exercises:
    Squat
    Deadlift
    Bench
    Incline
    Barbell Curl
    Military
    Row

for example if you squat 2x ur bodyweight is that considered good ? or how much should you be able to bench at 200 pounds to have some decent numbers...and for non-steroid users btw...if any one can help i would really appreciate the insight.

That's a good question. I know if you can bench press double your bodyweight that is considered quite strong. I'm almost there Even 100lbs over your bodyweight on the bench I've been told is impressive. There must be some other sites that have that info. I would curious as well.

I found a site though that had some records for bench press by bodyweight, classs, age if it was a masters class, and what they lifted.

I`d say if you can :

    2x bw squat
    2x bw dead
    1.5x bw bench
    1.3x bw incline
    0.5x bw curl
    1.5 bw bb row

    You are strong !!!

i weigh 140 and put up 240, i have some of those records beat, they still cant b to date. it just all depends on how much you weigh to determine how much u put up. what a-rod wrote looks about right, but it really doesnt matter. there will always b some1 bigger and stronger.
It doesnt matter how big, how cut, or how much you can lift, because there will always be someone bigger, more cut, or stronger than you. You should train to be the best you genetically can be. This is what should motivate you everyday.

Wow, I'm a stronger old fart than I expected. LOL. I'm almost at the squat, bench and incline numbers. No where near the curl and I can only do my BW in the row. Worst exercise for me.

Overall I guess I'm on the right track. One of my goals is to 2x BW in bench and squats. A few more weeks if all goes well. Of course if I do gain any weight than it's always just a litte out of reach. That kind of sucks. It's like dangling the carrot in front of the horse.

It really doesn't. What matters is that the weight is heavy to you and you're making gains off of it. What good is lifting heavy weight if you don't even look like you workout. It's a nice personal feeling to be able to do it and know you're stronger than most people in your weight class/age group, but it really means nothing in the scope of things. IMO.

Well, then I'm strong in some areas and weak in others.

    My weight: 145
    Squat: 225
    Dead: 250
    Bench: 225
    Incline: 205
    Curl: 85
    BB Row: 125
    Military Press: 135
    Chins: +75
    Dips: +90

Some of these are estimates, but should be pretty close. My lower back is my weak link, which is why my squat, dead and BB rows are low compared to my bench. Not sure if 135 is good on military press. I suspect that's low as well. I might be able to do more sitting, but I always do military press standing so I don't know. My lats, bi's and tri's are pretty strong (which is why my chin and dip numbers are high), oh and it helps that I only weight 145 pounds.

    my 2 cents.

I'm a puss and can't lift too much. Haven't maxed on bench but I would say about 175-190. Around that anyway.

I've been thinking about this alot lately.

What REALLY matters? Weight you can lift, how BIG YOU are, or how good you look?

For me it is how I look. I might not be able to lift much weight, but I think I look good and my woman thinks I look hot. That is what matters to me.

    Agree completely.

But I think being strong is almost as important, and IMO it is a better goal than being huge. Strength is practical and useful, size isn't really (unless you make money as a body builder).

Besides, who looks better? A 200 pound dude with 15% bf or a 165 pound guy at 4% bf cut to shreads? I'd prefer to be the second guy personally.

    not impressive of course....but.....

    100 lbs added-8 reps

tri's have the strength but the arm reach is too long to excel at the legendary mass builder, the flat bench press.

    Talking Eh, why not...

For the past three months, I've been training with a focus on strength, and it has really improved my lifts and chin-up performance. My numbers are much lower than the rest of yours, but I can't exactly produce mass quantities of testosterone like you men do, so give me a break, umkay?

    Height: 5'8"
    Weight: 155 pounds

    Deadlift: 175

What REALLY matters? Weight you can lift, how BIG YOU are, or how good you look?

For me it is how I look. I might not be able to lift much weight, but I think I look good and my woman thinks I look hot. That is what matters to me.
yeah, teen bodybuilders always bitch with their maxes, if i would be able to get huge and big using 5 pounds i would use 5 pounds, the weight u use aint relevant in bodybuilding it's the size you gain from it, if you gonna do bodybuilding do it with heart and soul and don't be intimidated by anyone lifting more then you

If you can lift that weight under scrutiny of three judges, then yes. Otherwise your numbers are irrelevant.

There is a website and a publication of what someone SHOULD lift for each lift... I once found it in a MuscleMag publication but I lost the issue... If anyone knows of it could you please post it?

I see you don't have any pics or stats...

Also, this is somewhat useful. exrx(DOT)net/Testing/WeightLifting/StrengthStandards.htm
    I don't have 50 posts so I can't properly link it.

Blast from the Past thread. Worth resurrecting imo. Glad i never unsubscribed to this thread. 10 years later. Okay,..My recent take on this subject..

Alot of it,as i allready stated 10 years ago,has to do with Limb length,as in leverage, whether you mean individual capacities in bench, deads, curls,or squats. When you see these stats of PL'ers stats for various lift results,a 181 lb'er for example benching well into the 400's,you know for certain, the guy is a shortand stout 181 lb guy, short arms. Probably 5-5,5-6,5-7,with an equally sized reach,or even more likely,a shorter reach than height. Deadlifters are comparitively alot more equalled out it seems,as i've seen guys with much more leaned out type builds deadlifting huge numbers. Squats ismore akin to the benchers. Short limbs are WAYYYY better for excelling at squats. There ARE exceptions, but that is generally the way it goes in most of the cases. In the 1980's Dr Fred Hatfield squatted 1014. He was 5-6,230 lbs. A 6-3,230 lb man could never ever come anywhere near that amount. In the 1990's,when i somewhat followed PL'ing,i heard of two huge benchers that really stood out from the rest. Chris Confessor and Anthony Clark. They were 5-4 and 5-7 and 238 lbs and 350 lbs, both very compacted bowling ball type builds with very short arms, meaning hardly any range of motion. Basically provided phenomenal leverage advantage. Confessor did 740 lbs to break Clark's previous record of 735 and then Clark in return eventually did 800 lbs to reclaim the record.

These are completely unreachable numbers for guys that ive seen in PL contests. Lifters that have that Naturally tall and wirey athletic build.
I remember at one particular contest i was at back in 1994. There was this really tall guy at the end,he was in the 275 class. He was around 6-5 so he was built like a thin lineman in football, nothing like Clark or Confessor. He did a 515 bench and this was extremely impressive mostly due in part to his much more wirey type build. I found that more impressive and definately more inspiring than those really short, bowling ball build, stubby limbed guys that barely have any range of moton required to attain they're outlandishly huge bench numbers.

As far as squatting. The most impressive displays i've ever seen were Kirk Karwowski doing a Full Rom squat with 1003 lbs. He had a relatively similiar build to the 6-5 275 lb guy at that 1994 PL meet. And as far as repping out a heavy weight, watch Tom Platz doing 23 Full Rom squats with 500 lbs. He was 195 lbs at 5-7. Thats as impressive as it gets. His upper body was very modest. His arms only looked around 16". He had the upper body of a guy thats 5-7 155-160 lbs. All of the extra weight was in his fanatically trained wheels. But,had he been "Naturally built" alot more stumpy'ish,he could've done 40 reps with that weight. Platz was a mere small meso that transformed his legs into oak trees but they were still too long to do what he could've done in squats had he been a natural endo like Anthony Clark and co.

I know this is an old thread, but I'm trying to set some goals. The percentage of BW goals, should they be your current body weight or should they be your cut bodyweight? For example... I'm 227, but I *should* be around 170-180. So, should my squat be 450 or should it be 360? That's a pretty big difference ;-)

Old thread but.. These 735 and 800 benches are equipped, right? Seeing as though no human ever has benched 800 raw. Krill saychev holds the WR at 335kg.
