    Best Paying Club

So, I've seen that some clubs pay their PTs hourly, some only pay per client and some pay as low as $6/client.

What club(s) pay their PTs the best to train clients one on one?

Every gym will be different. 24 pays based on your certifications. 1 cert pays roughly $13 per session, 2 certs makes $16, and 3 or more certifications makes you $19 per session. Master trainers (3 or more certs and 2500 sessions trained) make roughly $24 per session. More importantly that company gives you clients so you dont have to rely solely on walking the floor to find new business.

Like I said, every gym will be different, each with their own pros and cons.

$24 per session? Do you get a basic on top of that? How much does the client pay the gym?
Geniunely interested as it seems PTs in the US make **** money (Your courses appear to be cheaper as well though)

Im not sure what you mean by basic. Trainers make commission when they sell training sessions, if thats what your asking. Your welcome to look at their website to answer your questions regarding cost of training for clients. Yeah, Master Trainers dont make bad pay, the prerequisites dont happen over night tho.

Yea at 24 we get paid hourly along with a percentage of the price of each training session while were training. On top of that we get 20% commission on training sales we make. The percentage of training increases with each level being Trainer 1, 2, 3, and then Master who makes very good money for training i hear.
Some gyms pay you crap while others such as Equinox, Cooper, Houstonian etc will pay much more and most likely have good benefits but just like any job you don't out on the top as nice as it would be.
On top of all that you should consider floor hours, if clients are provided, work environment, location of the gym (you wont have many clients in a small gym in a poor neighborhood most likely), and growth opportunity as I know 24 hires within and has great opportunities over time. I'm sure other companies do as well.
Obssession is a word lazy people use to describe dedication.

If your not nervous before going to the gym your probably not working out hard enough (my new favorite quote)

Thanks for all of the great responses guys.

24 Hr Fitness sounds great, but we don't have them in GA. I'll have to research more to see who in our area pays descent hourly rates as well as paying for obtaining the different PT certs and which ones are needed. Commission on top of that would be great too. Sounds like you have a great job EZ.

Your best bet in the US is most likely going independent. Most gyms pay awful rates for personal training and floor hours (if they pay at all for the latter).

The best rates I've seen advertised around here are $25-35/hr. Realistically, this is probably a bait and switch. I would be surprised if anyone really gets $35/hr. The average is probably $15-25/hr. Alternatively, most places will charge you $10-15 per session if you are independent. So, charging $60/hr, you could be making $45-50/hr. Either way you don't get benefits, unless you are working for a high end club.

I dunno about corporate Gold's Gyms, but i work for a Franchised Gold's Gym, and I make 40% of sessions plus 10% commission on the entire package up front. So I pretty much make 50% of the session rate. I love it because I can make as much as I can want whether I sell a 25$ session or 75$ one. The higher the sessions, the more i get paid so both the gym and I win.

As far as I know they require one of the big ones. All our trainers have NASM and ACSM. I know they accept others though too like NSCA ISSA and ACE. They mostly just want a cert of some kind.

Since you sell PT sessions for $25 or $75, do you also recieve clients from your boss or do you have to get all of your clients on your own?

No I still have to go get my own clients. I was in retail sales for about 5 years though, so selling isn't hard for me. I spent a good month marketing myself and just talking to member at the gym, giving out free consultations or one time sessions, and it all paid off. I dont like when the front desk people get clients for me. I always like to let people know what they will be getting from what they "believe" theyre getting.
