I'll obviously need to get them checked out but I'm not sure where to start. The orthopedic doctors around my area are known to always say "it needs surgery" as soon as they hear that a patience has insurance and I really want to avoid that.
Is there a different type of doctor I should look for to take a look at my shoulders?

I actually took a month off because of how bad my left shoulder was. I began lifting again 2 weeks ago and the pain slowly started to come back. Then last week I was doing Hammer Strength benches and my right shoulder got a sharp pain all of a sudden. A very different pain than my left shoulder.
I've been meaning to look for a chiropractor...it didn't even cross my mind when it came to shoulder pain.

Depending on what is going on, surgery might be a viable option, or oral steroids (glucocorticoids not anabolic). Ultimately you need a X-ray and/or a CT to see what is the causation of the pain. It could be a muscle tear, rotator cuff injury, or arthritis which is now becoming more common in younger populations with the most common being rheumatoid arthritis.

Why don't you start with describing location, type of pain, what makes it better or worse - what you are currently doing routine wise, exercise wise any history of injuries etc...
"I have shoulder pain, what can I do" leaves people trying to help with nothing to work with.**If any information in my posts helps you, take a moment to let me know somehow**
The above information is not medical advice nor intended to be used in place of it
Exercise Physiology BS/MS, CSCS, Injury Rehabilitation Specialist

Well the purpose of this thread was to find out what doctor I should be going to. I haven't had much help when describing my shoulder issues on here but here's the best I can do to describe it:
Left Shoulder - the pain comes after continuous pressure. It feels like strong soreness but not exactly. Doing high reps of any push movement hurts more than lower reps. If you look at this picture: http://www.triggerpointtherapist.com...erred-pain.jpg, the top middle dot is where it hurts the most. One weird thing is if I get massaged near my shoulder blade on the left side of my upper back, I feel that pain on the delt. A few years ago when I was doing military press, my cousin was spotting me and accidentally hit my elbow which caused my shoulder to extend the wrong way and it hurt pretty bad. Basically, It's impossible for me to do behind the head militaries or pulldowns. My shoulders just can't handle it. Since then, I've been having issues with this on and off, but it's been the worst the past 5-6 months.
Right Shoulder - usually never have problems with this one. But just like I mentioned before, out of nowhere I felt sharp pain all over when I was doing HS bench. When I tried pushing the weight 2 sets into it (I had already done barbell incline before that), the pain just kept hitting me. Literally having no weight still gave me pain when I tried pushing the handles. It's pretty hard to describe this one.
I'm aware that I need to check this out, but I really do not want to go straight to a surgeon because he'll most likely automatically say that I need surgery when he finds out that I have insurance. I'd like to know what other doctors should take a look at it first. I'm thinking the Chiropractor will be good but if there's anything better please let me know.

With shoulder injuries it often is one of the Rotator Cuff muscles, because those little guys are small they are easier to get injured. But rather than guessing, you should get an eval.
You can go to the Orthopedic Surgeon just to get the eval. Let him/her move your arm in 90 different ways and also give you an imaging test. The doc can tell you what's wrong. If you don't like his treatment option - - I.E. Surgery - - move on to a different doc. An eval doesn't equal agreeing to surgery.
Check into Active Release. http://www.activerelease.com
I've had it done to my right shoulder (supraspinatus) tendinitis on two occasions after two different acute injuries. The therapy helped my shoulder feel better in just a few weeks. It was covered by my insurance. My Active Release provider was also a chiropractor.Jan 2010: 210 lbs
Dec 2010: 145lbs
Feb 2011 - July 2011: Rotator Cuff Injury
July 2011: Back to weights
Current Goal: Build some strength
Just eat less? Who knew it was so easy to NOT be fat?
