You can always tell the people who have gone through something difficult in life. They seem to have a lot more patience and can look past the face value of situations and people. I'm sure that applies to him, as a former drug addict. Plus his movies are funny as hell.

Damn, watched part 1 and 2 of this encounter. People can say blah blah, he's in front of the camera, he just does it for the public image, but how many of us walk by people like this and just pretend they aren't there. Obviously we can't go around giving charity to every homeless person we see, but mad respect to him for doing this for the homeless guy. Also incredible how he is able to talk with people on their terms and not bull**** around issues. Straight up asks the guy what it's like to be homeless, asks him what he thinks about people thinking that he's just being lazy and that being homeless is a choice, etc.

Every once and awhile politicians pick issues like homelessness to grand stand on when election comes along, or the press covers a couple flimsy stories during the normal news cycle. Russell actually puts a face to the issue of homelessness and helps the guy out without patronizing him or any crap. Brings the homeless guy into his house and helps bathe him (no homo). Treats the guy like an actual man and a person.
