    box squats are awesome, i do them for swimming because regular squats make my back hurt, and they help so much

    just make sure whatever youre sitting onto is at or below parallel, and that you "roll back" a little bit, not just touch n go. dont completely abandon regular back squats though. do the box squats with a wide stance so to work your hips but without feeling like you could "rip" em. and as you go up in weight on the box, keep it going up on your back squat too. nobody cares how much you can box squat frankly, because its easier. but definitely use it as a tool to help your regular squat.

    Box squats are meant for posterior chain strength. You push your hips back to sit as far backwards on the box as you can, then flex your glutes and hamstrings to get off the box, the hammies and glutes should be the first thing to flex, if your quads do then you're doing the exercise wrong.

    I think box squats are a great exercise, I get great carry over with them to my regular squat and my deadlift. If I wanted bigger quads though I'd do front squats.

    Squat: 202.5kg | 446lbs
    Bench: 125kg | 275lbs
    Deadlift: 235kg | 518lbs

    They're definitely underrated.

    There's only 2 guys with BIG legs at my gym, and both of them do box squats every time I see them train legs. Coincidence? I think not...

    Box squats are not easier, if they are easier then you are either doing them wrong or box squatting on too high off a box. Box squats get rid of the stretch reflex at the bottom, making them harder.

    might just be a mental thing for me personally then. getting stuck with heavy weight on a box is a lot less unnerving than getting stuck in the hole with a lot of weight.. and the chance of injury is less in that situation (correct me if im wrong)
