    Advice on routine

Hey guys, I'm new to lifting. I played soccer and basketball and high school, and was always in great shape but now I'm a freshman at college and am not getting regular exercise. So basically, I joined the forums hoping that you guys could give some advice, and I could learn more about lifting.

Please, give me advice like I've never lifted before in my life.
    What supplements should I use?
How often should I work out?
Should I refrain from free weights when starting?

I'm 6 ft and pretty skinny (150-155) lbs if that means anything. Thanks guys.

Start with the basics. You should definitely be hitting free weights this will get you stronger faster. As for supplements, whey protein would be a good start. The key to whey protein is to drink it immediately after you finish working out, this will replenish your torn muscles with protein and help rebuild them stronger. You should workout as much as possible but don't over do it, i usually workout 5-6 times a week.

I don't recommend lifting 5-6 times a week if you're just starting out. Try to hit every body part once a week only for 2-3 months. Then move to hitting each body part twice a week. Tweak this sample split if you need to:
    Monday: chest/ triceps/ biceps
    Tuesday: rest
    Wednesday: legs
    Thursday: rest
    Friday: back/ shoulders
    Weekend: eat a lot
