    Les Mills Body Pump?

Has anyone tried it? Did you like it? I'm looking for something different to do for a change of pace, so I was thinking of taking that twice a week and yoga once a week in addition to lifting.

I take it at my gym when I can. I love it. I started a year ago with just cardio, then moved to the BodyPump classes. At first I was wiped out when I was done, but now I have added weight and feel great when I am done. It is fast paced, which gets your heart rate up. It is a fun way to increase your strength and mixes things up a bit so you wont get bored. I recommend it! I take this along with my lifting 3 to 4 times a week.

What are your goals? To have fun, I can see that this would be it. But if you have a physique goal, I'd say not good.

I think if you treat BodyPump more like a cardio class then I think it's fine. It's not really a substitute for a solid lifting routine though.

One of these days, I'm gonna have to march into a bodypump class, put as much weight on the pumpbars as they can handle, and obnoxiously do 3x5 while everyone else is doing 5min sets of each exercise. I wonder how long it would take to get kicked out of the class.

In all seriousness, I've seen much better bodies come out of bodypump than most of the stuff the average gym goer does on their own, so you could do worse, and there is something to say for doing a 50-rep set to failure, but for building muscle, most people will probably get more out of a well-structured hypertrophy program.

It's going to fit into my short and long term goals. I've never been interested in traditional aerobics classes, but this one looks like it might be fun. I lift at home, but am outgrowing my limited equipment and this gym has lots of classes in addition to free weights. I'm on a waiting game to apply for college for physical therapy, so I thought I would obtain a CPT and use that to help support myself when I have to quit my job. So, while scoping out the gym schedule, I came across a job opening for CPT with decent pay and benefits. I thought I would take this class to have a little fun and take the opportunity to check out the gym for possible future employment. I'm interested in working with the senior population too and this gym has lots of programs for them.

If you are already into lifting you probably won't like it that much, as said above is more for fun so if you are doing it to be social or with a bunch of friends go for it.

This. They have pump at my gym, too, and I had started taking the class to get my "weights" in... boy was I mistaken! Since it's such a high-rep class, you can't use really heavy weights. It's more of a cardio workout than a strength training one, IMO. It is fun, the music is great, and it's high-energy. Just don't expect to get the same workout as doing say, NROLFW, by doing pump.

    Just my opinion

Agree. Took my first class today. I thought I would be able to put a lot a weight on and was I mistaken. The reps were killing me I had to buck up and lower my weight. It was funny to see how low people really squat in this class. But the music is good and I felt a lot of energy in the class. Just give it a try and see how you like it.

I did it 2-3x a week for a year. Good for muscle building but not good for weight loss or cardio. Studies show you won't lose weight if u don't change diet and add cardio. So like it was previously said it depends on your goals. I thought I would slim down by just doing this. Not a chance. I probably put on 5-10 lbs of muscle. Which is good but needed to go low carb and add cardio to slim down.

I have been taking them twice a week for a few months, it is a great way to cut any stubborn body fat. High rep, medium weights...it is a good challenge, and also helps to maximize your cardio while doing a bit of weight. Still doing normal heavy lifting days as well. But I cut 6% body fat in about 8 weeks while adding these classes in, and cutting carbs a little bit.

I love body pump! I have been doing it for almost a year now (at least once a week, if not more). The combo of low weight, high rep movement has yielded great results in terms of strength and muscle tone. I've even noticed that it has made running a lot easier! It helps to have a fun and motivational instructor too. A lot of times when a sub is leading the class I find that I get bored easily.
