So I have decided to compete for figure competitions; however, I can't eat grains. I have eliminated grains out of my diet because of what they do to me. Besides sweet potatoes, does anyone have any other types of carb sources I could substitute for rice or oatmeal? I love sweet potatoes and don't mind eating them, but wanted other alternatives and can't afford a nutritionist being that I am a single mom and a teacher not making a whole lot. Thank you!

You can do white potatoes too, they actually have some nutritional advantages to sweet potatoes. When you say grain affect you is it a gluten allergy I would also look into quinoa, it's technically a grain but I hear that people with gluten intolerance sometimes can eat it since its not considered to be in the same family as wheat, barely ect.
If this were easy, everyone would walk around ripped.
I like eating, it helps with the not dying.

Rice doesn't contain gluten... :/
If you are avoiding grains bc of gluten then look into polenta. I also am allergic to gluten and my main carb sources are oats, brown rice, polenta, potato and quinoa. I often will skip a normal carb source and instead have a meal which is heavy in lentils, beans and other pulses like a big stew, coupled with plenty of meat.http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=155881453
