hi all, i just watched the Pumping Iron Reunion DVD and i was literally dumbfounded with how all these guys with incredible physiques from the 70's look now. i'm still reeling from the shock to be completely honest. why is this? is it because of the excess food intake along with the other things they were doing back then? have the things they did to attain their physiques finally come home to roost so to speak? i know excess food intake accelerates the aging process, but wow i'm still amazed at how badly they look today.
just look at mike katz:

Well most of them where between there late twenties to late thirties and it was 25 year later so they were pretty old. Plus after training so hard for so long they probably spent a lot of time just enjoying life. I dunno if they woulda had the benefits of trt either.
Lou was still huge.☆☆☆υк ¢яєω☆☆☆

Its true to an extent. Science time: When we eat food we take in nutrients blah blah anyway it gets broken down & brought to the cell which contain mitochondria AKA the powerhouse of the cell and body. The mitochondria use the compounds broken down from food to produce energy. The waste product of this energy production (free radicals I think) deteriorates the body(and Im leaving out alot here) over the course of a life time. Also as cells reproduce the code that is used to write out our body make up(aka dna) degrages over time. So as cells continue to split(cytokinesis) with shytier and shytier code the body further degrades. Thats why older people are more suseptable to cancer.
Think of a care engine, if your always running that thing hard core its gonna break down faster then a floor model. My Training Log: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=149612633

The guys from the 70s look fine for there age, that mike kats pic from pumping iron just makes him look old.
The bodybuilders who look unhealthy and frail are the ones that overeat and mess up the kidneys and train stupid (remember lee Haney said stimulate dont annihilate)
you get naturals trying to emulate Dorian Yates, Ronnie Coleman, Jay Cuter etc the natural guys body is not going to be able to recover or cope with the stress of it.
Why doesent Dorian Yates, Flex Wheeler, Kevin Levrone train like they used to? because with out the extra supps it would injure them.
I dont know if any of you listen PJ braun + Arron singerman on iron empire radio, but they have recently gone off all extra supplements which they call ''project small'' both of them have said they have had to adjust there training and Arron has lost a lot of motivation and is not training as much.
but as for pros looking older some pros tend to forget about health or are ignorant about it and end up dieing young or being a physical wreck when they are older.Last edited by dom1987; 01-15-2013 at 07:23 AM.
