    How does bulking work?

    I've heard people say here when bulking first two months you gain 2x muscle than eventually 4x muscle, etc. how does that work? I've seen on other sites that you just gain weight like this

    you gain weight with a caloric surplus, meaning you take in more calories than you burn off.

    Bulking is eating more than your body burns to build muscle. Our bodies only need a 200-300 calorie surplus to build muscle. A clean bulk is eating only enough so most of your weight gain is muscle. A "dirty" bulk is not caring about how much you overeat, just that you're gaining as much weight as possible so you either gain more strength like what powerlifters do (because more weight=more sheer strength), or you're ignorant and think that you can gain 5 pounds of muscle a month.

    You can only build 2lbs of muscle at the absolute most a month if a beginner and doing whole body training, and it becomes smaller and smaller as you become more and more advanced.
