it has always frustrated me that even bodybuilding fans are disproportionately willing to dismiss a bodybuilder for having incomplete upper-bodies but accept a bodybuilder that has an incomplete lower body.
i really think platz should have done better than his placings represented.

Yeah we'll that's kinda what this represents. Obviously Arnold's upper body blows Toms away but if anything the gap between the qualities of there legs might be even more.

Fair enough, but it was tricky enough posting what I did on my phone.

But the gap between Tom's upper half and lower half is greater than Arnold's upper and lower.
Anyway, Arnold beat Tom in 1980. Arnold was far from his prime.

Clearly legs are the big one but if you look at who is better proportioned then it goes to Arnold.
I saw a woman wearing a sweatshirt with Guess on it. I said, Thyroid problem?

I see where your coming from, but to me Platz looks closer to the current crop of pro's. like I think a guy with his physique would have more of a chance than a guy with Arnold's of winning a pro card nowadays because legs are so important now. (Obv Arnold could get the legs if he trained now I'm talking the vintage versions we've seen on stage).
Arnold is my personal favourite btw, so I'm in no way trying to bring him down. Just wondering if the evolution in leg development in particular would place Platz above him on a modern stage. I know Arnold already won in 80 and personally think he deserved it, but that wasn't Platz best year either and like the judges of those days I'm more inclined to the old school look with the smaller legs and extremely developed arms and chest. Again what I'm asking is, does Platz good but unspectacular upper body and amazing wheels bring him closer to the modern ideal?

Not a chance. Bigger gap with Arnold and those legs/upper body.
Arnold got a present in 1980 anyhow. Like Franco got the year after.

I DO respect Arnold for his look in the 70's although I believe Sergio was superior. But 1980 was not his year.

Flang is correct. Tom's legs were too big for his upper body in his prime. (1984)

Arnold's legs in his prime were pretty big and looked good with his upper body. (1974)

Comparing two completely different bone structures. Non sensical argument. No amount of drugs or training could of transformed either of them into the other. It all comes down to taste. Both of them maxed out their potential with the tools they had. Arnold was six footish...Tom was 5 and a halfish...you can't objectively compare them.
Tom Platz imo was robbed out of first or second in his Olympia outings at least once. He did bring up his upper body in 80s.
Arnold in 74 is perfection and that package of mass, height, proportions, and symmetry has not been duplicated since.

its all about proportions and aesthetics. those legs don't even look good. Arnold's body is much more balanced

No idea what you just said?

Platz has better legs but calves their even. Arnie wins everything else and I mean everything. He would still win today because Platz had little to no back.

Excellent statement of obviousness. I said they cannot be judged against each other objectively.
I think a better non dom 80s vs. champion 70s would be Ron Love vs. Arnold or Platz vs. Well hell, I can't think of any dominant sshort champions other than Franco and 81 was a joke.

Are you saying that Tom's upper body was more proportionate to his lower than Arnold's lower was to his upper?

Upper body>lower body therefore Arnold>Platz, otherwise Branch or Ben P would win more contests.

Actually I am stating that I would prefer to have bigger legs and a good upper body as opposed to poor legs and very upper body (minus delts).
