The lottery? - extra tax for dumb people.

lolol, OP in all honesty that money isn't enough of a bankroll for any of what you mentioned and their odds; your best bet would be putting it on red and hoping for the best.

    - Here in the US we have investment vehicles like 401k and SRAs (employer-driven) or IRAs (individual driven) that allow you to invest pre or post-tax income in a retirement account. I would imagine in the UK you have something similar. Many decent employers match contributions up to a certain amount (for example, mine matches contributions of up to 3% of my annual salary). Those funds are typically used to purchase mutual funds, stocks, bonds or other investment vehicles. There are generally penalties for withdrawing money from these accounts prior to a certain age due to the tax benefits you receive by using them. If you prefer liquidity, another option is to open a money market account at a brokerage and direct the brokerage on how you want them to utilize the funds as they become available.

    - Patience and discipline are the name of the game with investing. The most important thing you can do as a young person is to start investing as much as humanly possible and taking advantage of compounding returns. I suggest you look up "compound interest" and look at how important and powerful it is to start putting your money away at a young age. The easiest way to do this is to have your employer or broker (depending on what kind of method you are using) deduct what you want to invest directly from your paycheck. That way you never miss it in the first place. Like I said earlier, go with 10% of your annual income as a baseline. If you can't do it start cutting some of the bull**** expenses out of your life to get there. brb 3 years later and you have 50 g's in your retirement account.

    - The first person I went to was my father. It doesn't matter who you go to, but I would suggest going to someone who you respect to ask them how to go about setting up your future and ask them to recommend a broker. Stay away from getting advice from people your age. There are too many young brahs out there who are pissing away their future living above their means and not saving enough money in their prime compounding years, and then they wonder why they have to work until they're elderly and/or rely on social safety nets for their retirement.

Op your chances of winning the lottery are less than a million to one

The chance of hitting red/black on roulette is slightly less than 50% due to the house odds

You would be better off putting your entire bank roll on one spin of roulette, srs

Sports betting is tough as fukk because the ppl who set the lines actively want the public to bet on both sides so that they avoid having to pay out and lose a lot of money, so again even sports betting despite whatever system you might think of can be very difficult to win over 50% of your bets

To be honest I'd stay away from betting/gambling completely because they're both designed in ways to make you think you can win money when statistically speaking very few people consistently win

Don't invest in premium bonds OP, the actual payoff is not worth if your only putting in ~ £400.00 in for 6 months, statistically your won't win anything, you'd be better off buying £400 lottery tickets.
check out http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/savings/premium-bonds for a better explanation

Sports betting is not really worth it either.

If I was you I'd do a bit more research of stocks and shares.

I've got arround £12,000 worth of shares in major ftse 100 companies and in the last two years I received £500 dividence and my shares are up 1,200 pounds.

Once I finish my exam next week I'll be looking to invest in ftse 250 countries, seems a better investment than ftse 100 companies at the moment. (might be worth investing in tesco as well)

    uhh what?

If he gets premium bonds he will still have £400 at the end

If he buys £400 worth of lottery tickets he's likely to end up with £0

    Great logic.
