My Knees are exploding; Help Me!!
Hey Guys, I'll bullet point this:
* I have a recent blog on here about my massive transformation I have just started
* In that blog I noted how my legs are big and I've never trained them
* The reason is below
* I want to be able to squat to help them grow - help!
* I suffered massively from Osgood-Schlatters when 11-16
* My physio says I have abnormally short and tight leg muscles with short, explosive fibres
* This made me pretty nifty at sprinting but susceptible to injury.
When I squat and approach an angle of 30 degrees at the knee I have great strain around the knee joints (which are obviously weak)
When I bottom out, both of my knees loudly crack like massive farking popcorns
This is really unpleasant and sore and does this without any weight at all.
I am able to train my legs without squats, but want to be able to squat-
Has anyone had anything similar, can anyone help?!
Cheers
... PLEAAASE! =]

Yeah it is, I wouldn't mind it without the pain but its like a kind of build up of pain, then a release with the popping.
Ive heard things about fish oil but I thought I'd gather a few opinions!
I mean... what BB'er doesn't squat =/

Well i can only recommend things that aid joint pain
Glucosamine
Fishoil
chondroitin
Orange triad
Animal flex
would recommend the animal flex if you want an all in one thing

mine pop and crunch like stepping on a bag of potato chips. can't do anything for it. use ice to keep them in check and look at the things in your diet that can mess with joints? I found anything with Nitrates irritates my joints, also MSG. all make mine go nuts. I suggest laying off for a week or so till your knees calm down. mine get sore I just back off. I do very heavy limited rep lifts. it makes recovery easier. if you have knee issues then just stop the high rep stuff. it will be one of the best things you do for them.
remember 15 minutes of ice 4 times a day . use a towel to wrap the bag and keep it on our knee.

That is a thought!!
Read that at the same time as the famous Mr Yetti's advice, I'm thinking that knowing how to manage dodgy knees, taking the right joint supplements, and using some really good knee support could be just enough to let me squat with my mate!
I mean, I won't be one rep maxxing... But that's more time to practice benching ...
Thanks again man!

Ah that's really useful information!! Thanks!
It's a shame you can't really do anything about it, I'll try out some joint supplements as Jericoe mentioned, just to see.
Thanks man, really appreciate the advice! Guess I'll just have to do some more Manning-up...
It's ok, I've coped with some pretty insane stuff before... This will be fine!!
Thanks for the advice, I've just never had any mates with this problem, to know there are other similarly impaired fellas out there is a massive comfort to me!

Do you feel pain when you hear the cracking? My knees crack sometimes but never hurt. Maybe take some fish oil or something?

ORANGE TRIAD I AGREE DEAR SIR.
In all seriousness it helps so much. Helps my elbow when it bothers me to.
If you ever want help or advice, message me, I'll make sure to answer.

Glad I can help. most folks don't see bad knees till there way older. I have a friend at work who had to have his meniscus replaced at 25. he was in tough shape. could barley move. mine was wrecked for years of working on concrete. didn't help that I flipped a quad into a tree and tore a meniscus myself. took 9 years to get a knee replacement. my "good knee" is like a bad road on the inside. it has days where its a bit rough.
as for supplements? I dunno that anything is a cure all. loads of folks try stuff that supposed to do this or that. everyone's different what works on one person does nothing for someone else.
you have to go slow and see what works for you. I have only one that I use beside Krill oil and that's Diatomaceous earth. its got its good points but it helps me when I need it. it takes a while for it to build up in your system then it seems to do its job. you can read more here http://www.earthworkshealth.com/human-use.php

I have two friends with Osgood-Schlatters. I think thats where you have a huge bump right under your knee?
One squats 95lbs and the other squats 400lbs. Their knees hurt sometimes. I have them wear knee sleeves AND knee wraps over it. They love the idea and now they love squatting because it doesn't hurt them anymore.
