This. Although, you don't necessarily have to start on Starting Strength. If you prioritize strength gain, go for it, but if hypertrophy is your goal, get on a Push/Pull/Legs or an Upper/Lower split that incorporates compound lifts, working each muscle group at least twice a week, and combines rep ranges for strength and hypertrophy.

great age to start man, but dont follow the gym trends of ****s who lift heavy weight with poor form. lift with verrrrry good form and your set youll get huge gains and you wont hurt yourself
Used to be 247lbs 40% body fat.

It won't stunt your growth. Look at Arnold, Jay cutler, Ronnie, Louie Ferringo etc.. They all started around 14-15. I got told that for years and it put me off of lifting till I was 17. Wish I had started earlier

Starting early is the best thing you can do. Freshmen year of high school my friend got into working out and he's a tank now senior year.

I wish i started at 15, because since at this age your body produces higher levels of hormones when prompted to. In this case body building and if you didnt know allready hormones are aka " natural steroids ", thus they will give you results efficiently. Also that whole "if you workout when your small, you will stay small" is a HOAX. Hope that helps!

In my opinion, any age is a good age to start working out.
And the myth about lifting heavy and stunt growth is false. I started when I was 12 5'6 and i'm 15 6'1 now. :♠ Veni Vidi Vici ♠

That young honestly I'd just keep things simple and build a FOUNDATION before adding weights into the mix.
ex: from 15-16 work on your flexibility & how you handle your bodyweight(chins/pulls/hypers, pushs/dips, lunges/squats/sprints, planks/crunches, run/swim times) ect.
There's so much you can do with just your body alone.. and yet so many people start lifting weights without the simple background of being able to touch their toes, do 10 pullups, run 2+ miles ect.
Putting it simply, exercising with weights early is totally fine.. but expect to hurt yourself trying to do an atg squat without any mobility.. expect to have a lacking back when you can't do one set of chins.. expect to have a low RHR when you've never done cardio.. ect ect
I personally didn't touch weights until after 6-12 months of full-body conditioning through martial arts training.. but even then I jumped too fast into weights and herniated a disc(which causes sciatica flareups to this day) in my lower back doing "atg squatz brah"(recommend to be by this forum) from having inflexible glutes.Last edited by Shredthetics; 12-30-2012 at 09:35 PM.

any age is a good age to start lifting. NO lifting will NOT stunt your growth, it will actually stimulate growth because it makes your joints stronger while they are still growing. I am living proof of this, only 14 years old and already taller than every single relative i have on both sides of my family. (i have a family full of manlets, 5'8 is the average male height in my fam...with the exception of my brother, he's 6'3)
