bringing back the how many times can you bench your weight thread

Im going to start doing high reps on the bench again and thought id bring this thread back into existence. Post videos people.
Why do I do this weightlifting thing for the last 34 years with all its ups and downs life has handed me? Because each time I came back stronger. NEVER GIVE UP. Gym life is about more than muscles getting bigger and weights going up. Its wisdom discipline dedication humility you name it.

I will let him speak for himself if he desires. He is pretty low key.

Here is one of his vids....I think it speaks for itself...

The number doesnt suck. Always a fun workout. 5 sets try to get to 100 total reps. My high is 117 at 215 body weight 225 bench. 37 on first set is single set record.
As i get older I am realizing i have to get while the gettings good. I can put stats and PR's up here all day long. But, the main concepts with my workouts....
    1. GO BIG OR GO HOME.
    2. FORM IS EVERYTHING
    3. BREATHE.

I benched my body weight to see how many times I could bench it and got 19. (no video) This is my first time doing it in about a year and I usually get better after doing it a few times. 155 x 19 this time and last year I did 145 x 18 after a couple weeks. My gains were very minimal on the bench this past year but Im going full bore this coming year. As far as my story I have cerebral palsy which just affects my legs but as you can see stabilizing is a bit tricky especially since my legs tighten up and move while benching. Im hoping to bench 300 by the end of 2013. Im going to guess that in a couple weeks ill be able to bench my body weight 22 times. Well see.

Good work, stingray! I currently weigh 179, and I can bench 185 for 21 reps, after my higher weight working sets. My estimated 1 rep max is 280 right now, and I'm determined to hit 315 at 181 bw by 4/1/2013. No vids on this though, as I will only do high volume like this as a "burn out" set, once every couple of weeks.

I can bench my own weight for 18 reps.

I can bench my friends weight (225) for 30 reps.

to bad I can't squat the same reps. My fat butt needs to lose 50 more pounds.

Here is a video I made yesterday. I got 90 reps of 225lb in 10 sets, along with sumo deads and prowler push.

My best was around 16 reps at 235. Once I'm recovered from the latest surgery, I'll work my way back to that and more. This seems like a much safer goal than setting a new one rep max.

I'm not so sure about that. My second muscle belly tear to my bicep happened when I was benching 225 for reps. I've been injured 3 times, none were on 1 rep maxes ( bicep tear benching high reps, bicep tear loading a keg onto a platform, and partial plantar facia tear carrying a yoke )

Really? That's the first time I've heard of a strong guy getting injured benching 225. I've read some stories about pec muscle or tendon tears while benching, but those were all with heavier weights. All my major injuries happened with one rep max attempts. This last one is getting old at this point. 6 months of pain and disability from one failed deadlift max.

I'm still more or less a newbie, but I tried my bodyweight and managed 12 reps. Not bad, but I can do better. I've switched from pyramiding up to 3x10 sets, and my bodyweight hits that almost perfectly at the moment. I'll report back in a month or two!

You guys are very good inspiration. 37? Holy cow.

12 reps is awesome for a newbie. It's funny how different people start with different levels of natural strength for the various lifts. I started lifting at 14, but I couldn't bench my body weight once until I was 16 or 17.

Same with me. I wonder if it was because we had long growth spurts in the age range? We are both the same height.

wed. Ill see about doing my body weight for as many reps as i can on video. How about some of you others in here do the same sometime soon.
Why do I do this weightlifting thing for the last 34 years with all its ups and downs life has handed me? Because each time I came back stronger. NEVER GIVE UP. Gym life is about more than muscles getting bigger and weights going up. Its wisdom discipline dedication humility you name it.

Dang, you're the same height as me but about 12% stronger on bench (and lighter in weight!). Impressive and motivating. I'm doing bench tomorrow so I'll see if I've improved from my previous attempt! Fun stuff.

Thanks for the kick in the a$$. Finally broke 30

Been over 6 months I think since the last time I tried it. Went for it today...(figured I would put my holiday carb-up to good use)

Finally broke the 30 rep barrier. (got 31).

Obviously this is more an endurance test at those reps....but it was fun any way. I have never broke 30 reps before so I was happy with it. (one of the advantages to getting skinny )

Good job man. I had a guy help me put on weights on the bar yesterday and shot video and then later found out he only had 145 on the bar. arrg

After a few warm up sets, I did 205 for 12. I thought I would be able to do the rest of my routine...WRONG...I was only able to do 1x3 @ 225 and then moved on to other things.

Respect for you who can do this for multiple sets.
Go Cubbies! <opening day coming soon>
