When I started this thread, it was for people to discuss what they were doing. I was expecting that as grown adults we could support each other in a positive manner. Yet, it seems like some have decided to use this forum as a means to be rude and disrespectful to others. This behavior will not be tolerated.
We all started somewhere, be that skinny or over weight lets be supportive and encourage each other.

Keep at it daily, and you will get there. I started at 277# in Jan last year and will drop below 200# next week. There are lots of these same stories here. Go read Skullster's journal.

There was a thread not long ago about a guy (military) that had pretty much given up due to back problems. He finally found someone that could help him, and the youtube video is an amazing story of daily persistence and sheer willpower. If he can do it, you sure as heck can.

    Good luck.

Just because we are over 40 doesn't mean that we are dead. We just have to do a little more planning and take it one day at a time.

Keep up the great work everyone. This is not a sprint but a long distance race. Keep the faith!!!

Hi I turned 45 just over a week ago. I am not really a bodybuilder as I don't lift weights much but have done three fitness competitions. I run but I am mainly a full contact kickboxer ,so kicking but is what I do best! Been quite ill with a chest infection for the last 5 days so hav'nt been able to train so a bit down .
Looking forward to getting back to training asap , have a fight sheduled in March and a fitness comp. June.

I can't run as far or fast as when I was younger but my general fitness is as high as its ever been.
I generally train 4 days a week kickboxing ,plus fit in a couple of runs.
Feel free to send friend requests especially if your in the UK.

Age is just a number ,don't let anyone say your too old!!!!

Glad to see a 40+ thread. I saw this and had to stop in and say hello. I feel better now at 45 than when I was in my 20's! I just wish I had taken training seriously when I first started but now I'm in 100% and totally hooked.

Did lower body on NYE and upper body (push emphasis) this evening. I rarely lift two days in a row...don't think I recover well enough to do that. But, since I just split upper body into a push day and a pull day, I felt like I could get away with it. I'm in the midst of a medium weight/medium reps cycle to allow my connective tissue to prepare for a heavier cycle starting in about four weeks.

i realised @close to 40, my strength dropped by at least 20 to 30%, recovery is slower & tend to overtrain & fall sick if i pushed myself @
same level as 10 or 15 yrs ago. i used to look muscular then athletic then now like not sure if i can still maintain my body. should i just
stick to building muscle or adopt a more endurance like program using weights to maintain some strength?

i ever posted in the regular subforum but not this thread & ppl thought i was after sympathy.

Looking forward to getting back to training asap , have a fight sheduled in March and a fitness comp. June.

I can't run as far or fast as when I was younger but my general fitness is as high as its ever been.
I generally train 4 days a week kickboxing ,plus fit in a couple of runs.

Catherine, you look fantastic. Those are amazing abs for anyone, let alone someone who has had 8 children.
I used to do Muay Thai a few years back but eventually had to stop due to ankle problems. I enjoyed it though, especially smacking the hell out of the guys in my class.

    Get well soon!

    In....

I closed out 2012 on a positive note, still recovering from my 2011 car accident back injury but working out through it. Put on some size and all of my lifts are climbing. I was off for 11 days with the Xmas holidays and was in the gym for 9 of those days. Mixed in light and heavy days, working the split as best as possible. I'm at my strongest since mid 2010 when I had the shoulder injury.

I know what ya mean. I had my L5/S1 operated on. Man was it painful. That was over 2 years ago and it still hurts.

As much as I'd like to see an over 70 thread it would probably be short-lived.
    Inactivity Kills!!!

My journal: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=140991491 Age is NOT an acceptable excuse.

And I seem to have beaten achilles tendonitis, which has been plaguing me for the last year. Did my first run (2 miles) yesterday. Now just to fix this bloody shoulder!

But yeah, I do need longer to recover now. I remember the year I turned 40 I tried doing Crossfit and found the 3-on, one off intense workouts too much. It was fun at first but then my immune system broke. I caught every virus going and was sick for pretty much three months. It wasn't a good time. I can still do more metabolic-focussed workouts, just not as often. Most of my weight training is a bit slower paced. Still gets the job done though.
I try to stick to a 2 on 1 off but find myself wanted to get back on the day off. I just have to break up the muscle groups.
