43 years old here. Just joined today and this is my first post.
In a nut shell, fat guy with a bad heart back in the gym. (with doctor approval) Haven't trained in over 3 years but feels good to be back at it. Since turning 40 my heart went bad and I had to get bifocals. I figure if I don't do something now, when I turn 50 something will just fall off!

Well, Iwill turn 78 in May, I imagine I must be one of the older people who still workout regularly. All the things Dutchman described are applicable to me, mutatis mutandis. Except my wife died some years ago, after nearly a decade with fronto temporal dementia.
You have to keep your brain and body working, just to stay in reasonable connection with your fellow man (and women).
I have a home gym and work out in it practically every day, unless I am travelling (I am still practising as an accredited lobbyist with all the Parliaments of Australia).

Good stuff, George.
Could you lobby to get 1,3-dimethylamylamine taken off the banned list in Oz? I'm missing it already

I'm 2 weeks old here and love this site. So far down 9 lbs and feeling so good about myself. This lifestyle change should have happened years ago but it's ok that I started it before it was to late.
Have any of you ever done the P90X routine? I bought it 2 years ago and tried it and of course got hurt ( it was it was to much.) But I think I am going to start back on it at the end of the month. That way I have a good 4 weeks of exercise in and not doing it cold turkey.

My in between meal snack
I use 1scoop of whey protein and 1 scoop of meal replacement, a couple scoops of instant oatmeal and a table spoon of crushed flax seed mixed in water in a shaker cup. The perfect in between snack!!!!! Complex carbs that will fill you up and give you 50 protein and essential fatty acids. I premix these ingredients in a zip lock bags and can bring anywhere

Nice to hear you speak up G. With you, we've now got 4 or 5 70+ers sharing their experiences here. We learn a lot from the younguns but have a lot to give ourselves. Sorry to hear about your wife. Mine passed away 2 1/2 yrs ago with cancer. My point was that my committment to strength, health and fitness brought me across the path of a wonderful woman, also committed to this lifestyle and we hit it off immediately. It is indescribably exciting to have someone at your side as dedicated and committed so that you can share and enjoy every step along the way. We caught each other's eye because of the condition we are in and it was love at first sight. I have never been happier in my entire life. We set our goals out 10, 20, 30 years and more. We are convinced that such a future is attainable and in fact have set 80 as a time when we will be both fitter and stronger than we are today. That should catch the attention of some of our worried 40-somethings in this illustreous forum. Look forward to hearing more from you. Maybe one day we will get back down under and can look you up. Cheers

About to turn 41 here. Love whooping some younsters a** in the mountain bike trails and road.
I remember in my early 30's the worst a** whoopings i got ,came from guys in their mid to late 40's in cycling. There was something about a man at that age ,that he just would not give up. Those guys where very mentally strong and would take a lot of pain.
Keep up the good work jrod67!

41 here. Been off and on over the years. Started hitting the gym hard a couple years ago. Was set to go on stage last November, but a herniated disc took that away. Plan to hit the stage in July this year. Just trying to train smart and hard. My workout partners are mostly in their 20's, so that pushes me hard to keep training harder.

45 here. I think - I stopped paying attention to my age... My will is solid and I enjoy lifting and doing cardio. I'm looking to cut around 40#s and bulk back a little. Loosing weight has never been a problem for me, my problem was slipping back into bad eating habits and getting lazy. I would get to my goal and think it would magically stay there. Pizza is worst enemy! lol My plan is finding a fun way to stay fit for life.
Looking forward to putting in my time and maybe helping some folks after a while if I can.
