The artistic value of bodybuilding was way more present and more focused on back in the days, as for now, it's mainly all about who can come in as big as possible with a [small waist (which is not happening for the most part)].

There is always something to say for old school, but someone like a Ronnie Coleman, a ripped Kai Greene etc is something special also

The BBs today have incredible size & conditionning, however their mid section is not pleasant to look at. I prefer any Mr. O until 1991. Not to mention the health factor also.

I'm a huge fan of old school bodybuilding.

It was more unique IMO cause a lot of competitors had imbalances that made them stand out compared to other bodybuilders, while today, most people are perfectly symmetrical, which is a good thing, but it's less unique and the posing is less artistic.

I liked how physiques had an element of uniqueness before 2000.

Nowadays they all look pretty similar, of course with some accented areas from genetic potential but nothing that sets them apart like the old days.

Maybe it's a personality/charisma thing, or the physiques themselves... who knows.

Something in the middle, I would say the 90s where you find the combination of size, symmetry and conditioning.

Completely agree. I think its because bodybuilders were more asymmetrical back in the old school days. Like Arnold had no delts and an overdeveloped chest, Tom Platz and his huge legs etc..

I think 90's were the last good days of bbing. Once Ronnie took over, imo, it started to go downhill. Thats when the U tapor started to be seen more frequently on competitors

Arnold's Rear double bi sucked. He never was able to make his lats pop, same with Levrone. Not a fair comparison IMO

Sergio, Arnold, Haney, etc.

90's I liked earlier Dorian (pre 94), Levrone in the early 90's (same with Flex). Also liked a few of the more sleek guys in the 90's.

Hate almost every physique now. Even my boy Evan is looking stomached out. So sad.

Yet that pic is a little unfair anyways plenty of pros have a tight waist.







Colemans waist was tight for most of his career anyways until later when he started to deteriorate. I think the pros now look sick and have improved though in terms of bodybuilding perspective all around. They are bigger and leaner in most cases plus they actually have legs.
