You're mistaking impact for pain...the impacts are in fact comparable however Pads no matter how much people try and say "lol hurr durr they are used as weapons you hit harder" yes you certainly do hit harder but the force is dissapated across both your pads and opponents upon impact..
Now contrast that to taking a shoulder straight to the clavicle or sternum...it's goodnight sweet bone.***Irish Misc Crew***

Very good link , I will say though as this bloke is a 7's player he doesn't really feel the full impact of the full 15's code. That's where the hits are at 7's is more of a free flowing less contact orientated brother of the 15's game.
Nonetheless I love a game of 7's...social aspect is 2nd to none***Irish Misc Crew***

Thanks for making the argument for football. Those extra things cause even more damage.
edit: lol at thinking football players even wear half that ****. No one wears that abdominal brace. Same with the elbow pad. Only thing players wear is helmet, shoulder pads, and pants. and than gloves if you're a reciever

That's absolute tripe , the Pads significantly dissapate force around the targetted area of the body to suggest anything to the contrary confirms that you are in fact mentally unstable.
I like NFL I really do but I hate when people claim that the pads are weapons.. they are and their ****.***Irish Misc Crew***

That tackle/hit in the OPs video would have been illegal in rugby. Not allowed to make a tackle/hit on someone who is airborne in Rugby Union.
Comparing the tackles/hits in each game doesn't work as the styles of tackles are different since they both serve different purposes. In NFL the goal is to stop the movement of the player and drop them to end the play, the player doesn't have to be held for this to happen. In rugby it is much more effective when making a tackle to hold the player since they must release the ball if held and it gives the defending team the best chance of rucking or mauling to get the ball. Shoulder charges are banned in rugby union as there is no need for them in the sport, they just lead to unnecessary injury. You would be better off comparing Rugby League (Most Americans probably don't know what it is) to American Football as the games are a little bit more similar (League allows shoulder charges, though there is talk of banning them).
American football and Rugby are both awesome.Last edited by Torarox; 12-25-2012 at 01:45 PM.

Go be a fukking sprinter or a high jumper then...
Ball sports are supposed to be a combination of skill, speed, agility, strength, endurance etc etc
I watch NFL and like it, but its so specialized that it takes away from the game.
Better explosive athletes = NFL
Better all-round sportsmen = Rugby
I played school Rugby at home (Ireland), not a great standard and when in America played Rugby with a lot of ex D1 football players.
I stood out to them because I was an all-round good player (handling, tackling, endurance, kicking), they couldn't get their head around how to improvise or think on their feet. Trying to run any sort of lines in the backline was a nightmare because they couldn't recognize play patterns since they were so used to everything being scripted.
This.
The team I support are one of the best Union teams in Europe currently, and a lot of that is down to their ability to choke tackle and create turnover ball.
