You can train them however you want.
Imo though they're a muscle like any other & should be trained as such. If your routine dictates you hit each muscle twice a week then hit abs twice a week, if your routine dictates you hit each muscle once a week then hit abs once a week & so on.
Having good abs is all about low bodyfat.
