Ok, so I understand that your feet can get larger as you age, and I moved from 8.5 shoes to 9 a couple years ago. However, I started lifting heavy and regularly in March, and my feet are now a size 9.5. Has that happened to anyone else? I didn't notice the difference really, but I think that's what contributed to me hurting my right foot while running (toes were compressed, may have a neuroma now) back in August as I kept increasing the mileage and speed. Now that I've gone shoe shopping, I've had to buy larger ones and definitely feel the improvement.
I think squats made my feet bigger!

As off-the-cuff causality "gee how'd that happen?" correlations go: perhaps running too far, too fast, had just as much to do w/ your new foot size as squatting?
• Keep it under the posted speed limit
• Don't go beyond state lines
• Never squat more than 3x-3.5x body weight w/out proper foot bindings.Last edited by Joe2DovesGiotto; 12-23-2012 at 05:46 AM.

My feet were flat to begin with -- been that way for years actually. I remember a doctor telling me that my arch was nearly nonexistent so unless I've gone beyond flat, I don't think that's the case.
As for companies and shoe sizes, I stayed with the EXACT same brand and model of shoe, Mizuno Wave Rider. And the size is clearly larger on the foot measurement. Also, my combat boots are a tad small now when they've been fine from 2006 until now. I had to buy another set of boots since arriving here (deployment) in a 9.5, and they fit perfectly. I just bought a set of minimalist shoes for lifting, and the 9.5 size fit best.
Ok, maybe I'm just weird then. I'm probably going to see a sports injury specialist (who is also a marathon runner) about my foot in January so perhaps I'll ask him about increasing foot size related to running and weight lifting. I need to visit the shoe store in the meantime, too.Last edited by AndrewR770; 12-23-2012 at 07:13 AM. Reason: errors!

Still there?
I know this is probably a dead post. You have probably long gone and might not read this, but I stumbled across this post as my feet have increased by 1/2 a size since I started weightlifting! I no longer fit into some of my favourite high heeled shoes... I thought it was just me until I read your post!!

That's funny, I don't fit into high heels either!
The question does seem odd, when I see so many people squatting barefoot. But in reality, I don't think any amount of weight lifting can put as much stress on the feet as running. I just wear a pair of old sandals, but I'm not lifting nearly as much as some folks here. I haven't noticed any change in my feet.“Those who can make you believe absurdities, can make you commit atrocities.â€
