Congrats to you and your son. That's some impressive accomplishments at his age.
Damn bro, you don't mess around. It seems as though you were just talking about the possibility of having a kid.
Now this was funny... and true.★cVc★

HA!
Well, we have decided to not make him work. We want him to enjoy his high-school "Kid" years.....all we want him to do is be in sports and get a good education. He is expected to live with us until he graduates from college. He will get a job after high-school, but not now. He has the rest of his life to work.

Honestly bro, and I'm being 100% serious. We never want him to move out. Now that he's older and the time is inevitability coming, it's a mix of feelings. It's scary, sad, excitement, worry, etc knowing that he will be starting his life. His own job, his own family, and his own home.
Another big adjustment for us will be just me and my wife. The only time is was just ME and HER was during the months he was in her belly. Otherwise, it's always been us three. Him being gone will be hard for me......very hard.
Because you don't have a child yet, this is hard for you to materialize but once you become a dad and that bond grows, you'll look back on this and know 110% of what I'm referring to. HOWEVER, some people can't wait until their kids to turn 18 to kick them out.....we're not like that. I know what that's about and vowed to never let me children experience that.

I actually can understand that quite a bit more now. About a week ago I was thinking how much a child changes ones life and how the day will come when they are going off to college, bringing home someone special that they want us to meet, etc. I even got to thinking about grandchildren and how I hope they don't wait until they are 36 to give us grandkids (like I did). You are definitely right - so much to think about.
And I'm glad that you have a close relationship with your son - many families these days don't have that.
I hear you on the expenses. Things are nuts nowadays. When I was a kid we had the cheap cloth strollers that if you didn't lock them would fold you up like a clam. Today the strollers are decked out with every convenience imaginable and cost upwards of $400-500!! Thankfully my wife is reasonable and is ok with buying sensibly and on a budget. Some moms go full potato with that stuff.
The other stuff, we have planned out. I'm so meticulous with money and planning (I use a custom built excel workbook with graphs and multiple data sheets to track our household budget) that really the only thing that could derail us would be either a loss of my job or if the baby had very serious health issues that exceeded the coverage of our health insurance. Knock on wood, hopefully none of that happens. We are so dead set against debt that we will do everything possible to avoid it. Budgeting, saving and planning ahead are our watchwords. It's hard to win an argument with a smart person. It's damn near impossible to win an argument with a stupid person. - Bill Murray

agreed 100% with bolded. I know I'm going to be a wreck when that day comes and my kids move out. As hard as it was to even have kids (4 miscarriages) I feel that I am that much more aware of how much they enrich my life that to have a day when they are on their own, is ruinous to me
...till we meet again
