Yes; I am. If you're in a competition where kipping bar-humping will give you the advantage, it makes sense to do it... same with the arch. My point isn't that one is "good" and one isn't, or that either one isn't good. For the respective sport, both are optimal; but we're on BBing.com, not PLing.com.
If someone wanted to say that they benched the most weight with "legal" form, then I'd say go for the crazy arch. If you're looking to bench to build a bigger chest, I fail to see how shortening the rom with an arch will help, especially as the bottom of the rom is the part that works chest/delts most.Former member of the > 300 lb crew

lol
that happens all the time when people use a suicide grip and kip. in my gym, i teach everyone to have a full grip on the bar (thumb around the gar). if they choose to use the suicide grip, that's on them... i told them multiple times before. just like guys on the bench that use a suicide grip.... it's dumb.
the guy in the video had a good time, too. you guys bashing crossfit should try that workout he just did:
21 thrusters w/ 95lbs (front squat into a push press)
21 pullups (you can do them strict, but most will kip)
15 thrusters
15 pullups
9 thrusters
9 pullups
do that as fast as possible.....

Kipping pull ups have their place, but that place is seldom found in bodybuilding. If you're doing pull ups for purposes outside of bodybuilding, then kipping pull ups may or may not be for you because of reasons.

When you are doing raw powerlifting the arch is not so important, but the bigger your arch, the the less you have to bench, literally the distance between barbell and chest is smaller the bigger your arch. - Batmannu
My response: When you kip, you are also decreasing the ROM of the pullup, making it into more of a pullup "lockout" (not sure what else to call it).
You guys are splitting hairs. It's the same damn thing, in a different flavor. Lotta meatheads getting angry bout this but not 1 valid argument to dispute my point. LOL

I bet after high enough reps you are pulling with arms though, once fatigued (just speculation i have never "kipped")
Just dont lose the point, which is that when the actual exercise IS the competition, the easiest way to complete a rep while staying within the rules and regulations, is how the exercise is performed.

This. In strongman, deadlifts are allowed to be done with straps usually. This is not allowed in PL. So is it better to deadlift with or without straps? The answer is...depends on which sport you do. No point not wearing straps if competing in strongman. Same concept really, do what will help you in your sport the most.My 400 incline press at 19 years old:

I dont' care that people I know that do CF do kipping pullups. But I get annoyed cause they always seem to leave off 'kipping' when telling other how many pullups they had to do. "yeah... I did 50 pullups last night!!'
Its like the want to purposely mislead people into thinking they are doing real pullups or they are embarrassed to say they don't do strict pullups. And they do know what they are doing are kipping pullups and not real pullups, but just don't say it when trying to brag about their workouts. My vids
