I strongly agree about lunges. I don't mind lunges in theory, but I loathe them brutally in practice.
I don't really have a favourite exercise. If I like an exercise, it means I'm on a deload with it, and so it's at a weight that's high enough to be a slight challenge, but is light enough that I require no mental fortitude to do it. Once it gets heavy enough to be mentally demanding, I won't tend to feel quite so delighted by the lift.SQ 172.5kg. BP 105kg. DL 200kg. OHP 62.5kg @ 67.3kg

My favorites tend to change. In general, it is the the most challenging lift which I'm finally getting the hang of and is starting to feel natural. Right now that would be cleans.
It's not uncommon for my favorite lift to have been my least favorite a month earlier though.
Free weights over cables definitely!

Free weights. Although I just started using free weights about a year ago. Before that I always used machines. Now I know better. It's unusual to see women in the free weights section. Sometimes I'm the only one.
My favorites are dead lifts and dumbbell snatch. I also have a love/hate relationship with squats. Sometimes I love them and I do well, but sometimes it's draining and can't lift very much.

Deadlifts--interestingly, I don't see many people, male or female, doing these at the gym. I didn't like them at first, but definitely would rate them as a favorite exercise, now.
OH DB Press, front lateral raises--I like working the shoulders.
Exercises using kettlebells ... started incorporating into my w/outs a few months ago; enjoy them much.
