Unhappy Any women experience low testosterone?

I recently went to the doctor for a check up after 7 years without health insurance - and thus health care. Well I am able to see the lab results online but have yet spoken to the doctor about them..
It showed two abnormal labs. Free testosterone was abnormally low while my SHBG was abnormally high. The symptoms are similar to hypothyroidism (of which I've been tested for) - fatigue, depression, weight gain, dry skin, low libido, strength/muscle loss, poor sleep

The doctor isn't back in clinic until Friday but I can't seem to find very much out there about low testosterone in women. Has anyone experienced this? I would like to know your stories out there - or am I alone?

There is quite a bit of info around on it -give google a go, also search the forums as it has been posted quite a few times before. It's likely he'll give you a cream to apply on your skin which should ease up the test in your blood stream.

I have googled but from what I've found - for women - is fairly basic and no first hand accounts or how women felt when they tried the cream or pellet etc. I've also searched the forum but didn't really see any that had labs done, most were just wondering if they were but couldn't see any with personal accounts. Maybe I'll give it another go as I didn't click on every single post - just the ones that sounded like would be of interest and had a decent community reponse.

    Update

My doctor called me and requested that I retake the labs again as time of day impacts the results and the levels I had were so far out of range she was surprised and wanted to make sure they were accurate.

Well the results from the second test came back and my free testosterone went up slightly but my SHBG also increased - she is referring me to an endocrinologist to further delve into this lovely issue.

For reference and for those in the future that may be researching like I was/am my Free testosterone was .7 pg/mL which is abnormally low for females (normal ranges: .8-7.4) while my SHBG was very high 250 nmol/L (normal ranges: 30-135)

My appointment won't be for a monthish but I will update again for those that may ever be in my shoes looking for experiences etc

I'm pretty interested in this because I have a lot of the symptoms of hypothyroidism but my thyroid levels couldn't have been more perfect.

I have been to so many doctors over the past 3 years trying to figure out why I have pains that won't heal and in some cases why I have pain at all. One of my doctors suggested low estrogen levels but he quickly dismissed that because I wasn't having periods that lasted only 1-2 days.

I don't think they ever tested testosterone though and I do know a friend who has low testosterone and a lot of his aches and pains are better since he's been on treatment. But since he is a dude I didn't think that stuff would apply to me.

Let us know how it goes.

Please keep us updated. I had low test in 2009, then low thyroid. Thyroid normal but still getting other symptoms and lack in muscle mass for what I do.

Going to get re-tested this week

A lot of doctors aren't really that knowledgeable about hypothyroidism and will tell you your levels are normal when they are not. Most use only the TSH test when they should be going by your Free T3 & T4 levels.

Some tricks for raising testosterone is to take high dose Vitamin E. Also consuming foods like celery and yams will raise it a little. Could be possible you are lowering your testosterone by being too estrogen dominate. Something people just do not understand is most all lotions, cosmetics, facial cleaners, shower gels and shampoos, etc contain multiple phyto and xeno estrogens that mess with your endocrine system. Also many foods raise estrogen that many on here will tell people to eat. One that comes to mind is flax seed. Coffee is also a phytoestrogen. One way to lower your estrogen intake by a huge margin is to stop using lotions and apply only coconut oil, vitamin e oil or raw shea butter as your skin moisturizer. And if you are into tanning stop using bronzers because those have a tremendous amount of estrogen containing products.

I'm a huge fan of Vitacost.com buying a lot of organic and healthy foods there. I started buying Jason's Vit E oil and the Out of Africa raw shea butter from them and both are great for making the skin look healthy. I balked at the price of the shea butter, but now I realize that $12 jar is gonna last a long time because a tiny dab covers a large area.
