Mother grieves as heartbroken Daughter, 15 commits suicide month after Sister took her life over Cyber-Bullying
Shannon Gallagher, 15, of Donegal County, Ireland, committed suicide less than two months after her 13-year-old sister, Erin Gallagher, took her own life after relentless cyber-bullying.
Shannon was heartbroken over the loss of her sister, Erin, and could not endure the pain a moment longer.
The mother of the two girls, Lorraine Gallagher, last night described her sense of devastation and shock at the double tragedy.
She described her two daughters as being the “lights of our lives”.
Father John Joe Duffy, priest of the local church, poured his heart out at Shannon’s funeral mass, saying:
“My heart is devastated. My heart is shattered at how poorly we understand the issues concerning youth mental health and mental health issues in the general population in Ireland. And the terrible consequences we see occurring and re-occurring on a regular basis throughout the country.”
These two sisters’ tragic deaths are only two in the seemingly never-ending suicides caused by bullying – both directly, and indirectly, as in Shannon’s unfortunate case.
Sisters: Shannon Gallagher , 15 and Lorraine Gallagher, 13

I wish people would know the affect that words have, in real life and over the internet.
This is terrible. Poor kids at that age dont know how to respond, so they take thier own life. I have respect for the victims.

We need a new ideology with the core values of reason, honesty, science and secular progress over the older traditions of religion, superstition and dogmatic faith that have long defined humanity. We will never be free to progress and advance until the last stone from the last church is cast down onto the last priest. And every equivalent.

very sad, though srs question.. i wonder if the father (been a priest) believes his daughters go directly to hell for taking their own lifes?

hindsight 20/20 mate. LOADS of people have mental health issues and contemplate suicide daily and are at risk for suicide. it is an impossibility to police and monitor everyone. Half the time friends and family dont see these things coming and so are helpless to prevent them.
doesn't matter now does it? they are gone and will be gone forever to no hell or heaven.Think you of the fact that a deaf person cannot hear. Then what deafness may we not all possess? ~ Dune

Very sad; but, If a someone kills themselves, the blame lies squarely on their own shoulders. I was teased a whole bunch (and bullied too, but back when I was little bullies actually hurt you physically) I never once thought about killing myself over it.
I think the problem is they don't let kids fight back anymore. A good punch in the nose is a nice quick way to get people to stop teasing you. Now they punish kids for protecting themselves just as much as they punish the bully.^^^()()GERMANIC CREW()()^^^

clearly this is not necesarily a result of cyber bullying.... strong finger pointing by the parents. You really think it's a coincidence that two daughters of the same parents both killed themselves before the age of 16 due to BULLYING? it's probably a genetic mental health disorder combined with bad parenting. media loves to use this new bullying thing to get more viewers.
Spoiler alert; you die at the end.

Tragic.
The most important thing parents need to do is tell their kids that what happens in the internet is ****ing nothing and life is far larger than that. Anonymity and interacting through a screen makes a lot of people not realize their douchebaggery. But "cyberbullies" are just that. Words in the internet can hurt kids, but not if they realize that in reality everything that happens there is quite inconsequential.Go Canucks Go!

Disclaimer: I'm not religious, nor do I agree with attempted suicide being prosecutable by law.
Can someone answer this please?
Society and religion both look down on suicide. The church says people who commit suicide go to hell. Attempted suicide is a crime which you can and will go to jail for. If an adult kills him or herself, they're seen as "just another statistic". If it's a teen though, it's a terrible tragedy and we should blame the parents. They get a proper funeral and burial by the same church that says they will go to hell. Why the double-standard?★ cVc ★ 15R ★ OIF - OEF ★
