    Pec-Dec Question...?

New to the forum. Excited to be hitting that point where the gym feels like a necessity everyday. Hoping I can stick with it for a long, long time.

I was doing chest yesterday and hit the pec-dec, but tried a different position. Rather than have my back straight against the seat, I leaned at a 45 degree angle with bent elbows and concentrated on using my pecs to lift the weight.

I could feel my chest working, but being a stickler for good form, wondered whether or not this is some sort of pec-dec sin, or, rather, whether it's doing more harm than good.

I liken it to the cable crossover in many ways.

We have a pec-dec in my gym but I never touch it, I feel there are much more beneficial ways to be hitting your pecs. I.E using weights or a smith machine. That is just my opinion though, I would stick to using a crossover 100%

You have the pecs of a 12-year-old. This question is better answered by somebody with some actual experience.

I think if you leaning forward your front delts start to kick in. I actually prefer leaking back a little and have my hands at nipple height.

This was what I was getting at with regards to the Pec-Dec, meaning there are much more beneficial ways than using it. Then someone got a little hot headed

Why you mad tho? You don't deny you have the pecs of a 12-year-old. The OP needs the opinion of a man with the pecs of a man.

Whos mad?. I don't need to deny anything, it was an immature comment and very irrelevant. If that is true, why are you even on this thread?.

That's his opinion and you should respect it, he hasn't said anything wrong, so no need to hate.

He doesn't have a pec of a 12 years old (no homo), do you even lift brah?

I believe the correct way for pec dec is as if you were doing flies, i.e. your back arched, chest out, slight bend in elbows, squeeze chest at the top. That's just how I was taught and it works for me, do what works for you.

    ^ that.

I avoided the pec-dec for a long time cuz when I first started I felt it a lot in my shoulders. Then I applied the same bench principle to the dec. Works a lot better.

You can do flyes at a 45 (incline) angle but I've never seen a pec dec that does that. Are you saying that you just scooted your butt forward and leaned back? If so I imagine the angle that you do flyes at would feel awkward on your shoulders. Just use DBs on an incline bench or learn to do that with cables.

Spare me the rep bull****. I see the reason you come to his rescue is because you, too, have the pecs of a 12-year-old. You two are now the founding members of the BodyBuilding.com chapter of the Itty Bitty Titty Committee. I bet it wont be difficult to find more members.

What a boring guy. Threads are for people to express opinions and help others where needed. I added my opinion, you disagree, that's life. No need to add false statements to feel better about yourself son, do you even train?

    Agreed!

OP - I assume that your doing more than just pec dec/crossovers for your chest? You will benefit considerably more from some sort of pressing whether it be bench press, dumbell bench press, dips etc.
