New to the forum. Excited to be hitting that point where the gym feels like a necessity everyday. Hoping I can stick with it for a long, long time.
I was doing chest yesterday and hit the pec-dec, but tried a different position. Rather than have my back straight against the seat, I leaned at a 45 degree angle with bent elbows and concentrated on using my pecs to lift the weight.
I could feel my chest working, but being a stickler for good form, wondered whether or not this is some sort of pec-dec sin, or, rather, whether it's doing more harm than good.
I liken it to the cable crossover in many ways.

"The fitness and nutrition world is a breeding ground for obsessive-compulsive behavior. The irony is that many of the things people worry about have no impact on results either way, and therefore aren't worth an ounce of concern."--Alan Aragon

You can do flyes at a 45 (incline) angle but I've never seen a pec dec that does that. Are you saying that you just scooted your butt forward and leaned back? If so I imagine the angle that you do flyes at would feel awkward on your shoulders. Just use DBs on an incline bench or learn to do that with cables.
