I suck at pullups so I use momentum sometimes. Just like I bounce the bar off my chest when I bench, except I do it with a measly 285 lbs. Then there is my McDonalds arch deadlifts. Clearly I should not be hating on anyone on form or strength. There are crossfitters out there who can lift more than me. There are bodybuilders at my gym who can lift more than me, including a guy about twice my age who can out pull me by 100 lbs at a bodyweight that is like 40 lbs lighter.
EDIT:
And lets not forget Becky is one of the strongest people here and doesn't she powerlift, play rugby, and do Crossfit?Last edited by arian11; 02-04-2013 at 05:15 AM.

at no point was I hating on crossFit. I actually like a lot of it and think its f*ckloads better than your avergage gym, or gym member. But I think its ok to have the opinion that kipping pull ups are stupid.... and that in no way implies that I am some guru of fitness/exercises..... fuuu man, you like to drive sh*t into the ground, lol.

Don't sweat it. Tons of factors can contribute. For proper tracking, make sure to weigh yourself first thing in the morning after taking a leak. This is the most consistent way. Even then though, the amount of sleep you get, what you ate/drank the night before and the way your body acts can be determining factors. The big deal is getting to the weight you want in the end while putting on strength. If you aren't doing that, then it is time to review things more in depth.Strongman Training Log: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=138026593

I APOLOGISE FOR THE INCOMING WALL OF TEXT!!....
I have a bit of a confusing question that perhaps some of you might be able to help me out with.. I'll try to make it as simple/make as much sense as possible..
Basically, my whole PL lifting time i've always followed a set progressive program.. So, I hit 1RM's, my new program is set based off this, and I work my way up over x amount of weeks and (given all goes well) surpass those previous 1RM's by the end of the program/cycle. I have my set reps and weights and everything pre programmed and set from the very get go, all based on what I should be hitting by the end of it based on my last 1RM's etc.
Now, this has always been whilst either maintaining the same body weight or even increasing it.. I've just started a fairly extreme cut (which I won't bother going into, as it's not really the point of the question, haha).. I've lost a bit over 4kgs in a bit over 3 weeks already (have upped cals a bit and its leveled out a bit now, that was a bit fast even for me).. But in doing this, obviously my strength has taken a dive.. It was explained to me that obviously 4kgs may not seem that much, but when its 4kgs off a 70kg girl, its a pretty decent % amount overall and will impact things quite a bit.. I'm planning on dropping another good few kgs..
My question is! (sorry for the wall of text).. I'm lost on what to do with my programming.. I am struggling to hit the numbers of only week 4 of my 14wk program already, I should be nowhere near struggling on this (if I'd maintained weight).. I'm already missing sets and reps.. So i'm thinking i'm going to have to modify my program.. I am unsure how to go about this.. Should I do a bit more of a just push it each session as much as I can? So almost like maxing out each session just to try and push myself strength wise as much as possible? (which may decrease each week anyway!).. Or maybe redo my program, but drop like 20kg off each lift and attempt to go through it then?.. I'm a bit lost on how to go about it.. I know obviously cutting is not conducive to strength/getting stronger.. And i'm aware my strength is going to go down, but what would be the best way to minimise this or get the most out of it that I can anyway?
TL;DR -
- always used a progressive program based on last hit 1RM's (always maintained BW or increased)
- being a "typical female" and cutting (quite drastically)
- not hitting numbers in even the first few weeks of program (that was set with 1RM's whilst heavier!)
- unsure whether to ditch program and just play it by ear - push for as heavy as can go each session
- drop 20kg? off each lift and retry program
- other???
Much much appreciated for anyone that manages to read that epic wall of text and throw a suggestion or two my way!

For your time

Did anyone else read this or did yall just go straight to her Bodyspace and notice she has no photos
For serious though I would reset the 1RM or cut back volume a little on a cut. I am trying to cut right now and just try to lower the volume on my assistance work. The Beast Journey to Elite

1. You shouldn't of cut 4kg so rapidly i.e. a pound a week would be sufficient.
2. Just lower your maxes and go from there remember the old adage powerlifting isn't a sprint.
3. The worst thing to do is push yourself to the point of injury and unwillingness to work out due to lack of motivation.

Yeah, it is quite similar, in both cases it's disliking something because you can't do it and making excuses for yourself not being as strong as someone you think is training improperly. The strongest guy I've seen at my gym was 6' 210, came in did 2 reps with 315, paused 405, had a bro spot on a hard TnG500, did 405x5, then giant setted 365x8, situps with his feet under the bench, kipping muscle ups, and Hack Squats with 90 lbs. Guess what? He was stronger than me, a lot stronger, you know how I know? He can bench 100 lbs. more clean. I shoulda gone into the corner with the other homosexuals (nothing wrong with it, but they prefer the company of men) and talked about how he wasn't really strong because his bench was bounced and his muscle ups were kipped.
If someone can do more pullups than you and kipping is allowed in whatever their hobby is, be a man about it and shake their hand. Am I stronger than the guy that wins the Xfit games because I have a higher total and he kips his pullups? Hell no, if I was I'd be collecting 250k a year. If someone can lockout 405 raw and touches their chest with it you tip your hat to them or you end up being the little dork in the corner snickering and gossiping like a school girl because that wouldn't have passed in his competition. Because I got news for you that guy isn't ever gonna bench 405 in any way, shape, or form by spending all his time sitting in the corner talking about why it isn't "legit brah" or how "I could totally do that but I use good form." He probably makes lots of special friends though who he can bitch about genetics and the inequities of the universe with.
Here's some good general advice somebody gave me a long time ago, if you are upset about something do something about it other than bitching. If it makes you mad that people can do more pullups than you, learn to do more pullups. If somebody benching more than you bothers you, try to bench more. Otherwise just worry about yourself.

Quick, possibly stupid question. Would you guys say a 1" block pull is easier or harder than off the floor? I know it's almost a negligible difference but I hit 475 today off 1" and my last floor max was 460. Curious if my max test in a few weeks will be higher or lower with all things consistent...
