You go to college to get an EDUCATION. Not to play on the basketball team or be the star actor in the drama club.
colleges need to get back to the basics and only accept people based on academic performance. none of that bullsht "extra curicular" that kids ONLY do so they have better chances at college.

Extra curricular activities build character and leadership qualities in people.
I've had a chance to compare students at state schools and at a forever alone university like The University of Chicago.
If I were running a think tank or a research lab, I'd hire the UChicago kids in a heartbeat, but if I were running a marketing firm or deciding who to pick as an naval aviation officer in the military, I'd go for the state school kid.

Nope colleges should go after the most well rounded people. Not a bunch of socially awkward *******s who do nothing but sit in their rooms and study.
BRB I can get a 90 on a calc exam but can't hold any sort of conversation with another human being.31 Straight unanswered- 5 Rings- GOAT

Well here in the UK the majority of state schools just aim for C grades with every students but the best. They push the very best for A*. So if you're a B/A student, such as myself. You get shoved into the classes with all the D/E retards desperately trying to get Cs when in fact you could get a B or maybe an A. The reason for this is. School league table credit is only affected if you get C+ or A-A* Those are the only 2 grades. So if you are a state school low on funding. The chances of them asking you to attend catch up sessions and putting you in classes of similar ability are f*cking ZILCH because they want the Cs so badly. Their philosophy is a B might as well be a C in their books. So if they only accepted grades. The private schools, where kids get one on one tuition and they strive for the best possible grades for everyone get the best deal because they all have the grades..
Furthermore aside from only grades, you said about scholarships being abandoned. WTF, implying the college doesn't benefit from a soon-to-be world famous Pianist/Football player in their alumni. Implying extremely gifted poor kids don't deserve to go to college. You sir are the highest grade of retard and everything that is bad about the mindset of the world."Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds" (Romanus 12:2)

Some Canadian universities strictly look at academics, and only care about the other stuff if you're going for a scholarship/you want to get a bachelors degree in a competitive area(Neuroscience, physiology.I've visited a couple universities no extra curriculars does NOT equal foreveralone.

I agree with you on the most part that EC's are pure bs that students do for college alone (yes, i am doing it too, about 6 of them all for college, WHERE 5 OF THEM, i wouldn't have done if it wasn't for college). However, colleges want kids to succeed after their college. The more involved you are, the better you can use the universities resources to try to improve yourself. There is a meaning in the clubs you join or the things you do. You are impacting something when you are in a orchestra, as they needed you to play as the clarinet. Or trying to help someone in a company do something for free (volunteering or internships).
Colleges want you to succeed in the future. These are small steps you take to be successful. Had it been only academics, colleges wouldn't want lame foreveralone students who only care about grades. They want students who care about grades and are ready to talk to people about how to fix things or do stuff.

You talk real big don't you. Are you some sort of know it all mad that you can't get into the school you want?
If you don't have "life skills" you will fail in life. Life skills are more important than a degree. I know so many great students that can't even put together a resume or handle a micro-manager.

of course my example isn't the end all be all but your idea is. Getting rid of ec activities will lead to more "forever Alone Crew" *******s getting good grades but failing in life because of social retardation.

Life skills are important yes but not more than a degree.
An employer doesn't give two ****s if you are the most motivated person in your department with the most upbeat attitude and dilligence yet you can't properly do your job.
