I have to ask, why do you take a pre-workout? Does it actually help you stay motivated and energetic in the gym, thus giving you a better workout? Or do you think that the powder itself will actually make you bigger/stronger?

You post makes absolutely no sense in context of your prior post.
Also, FYI: Glutamine is not recognized as an essential amino acid, though it can be conditionally essential. However, it's plentiful is dietary sources of protein and there's no peer-reviewed journal published research that I'm aware of supporting material benefits from free form supplementation.

I had never taken a pre-workout until my last two lifts.....had two free samples, honestly noticed nothing, I normally down half a gallon of water and hit the gym in the AM fasted. Days that I go later in the day, coffee or caffeine pills work well for me. But those are a rarity, I know of a few people who've become dependent on coffee as a pre-workout and now consume 2-3 large coffees before the gym. A bit excessive imo. Personally I try to hold off on coffee for those days that I'm just feeling like absolute crap and I need a little something for pep. I'll go with either a sugarfree rockstar or a big cup of coffee normally.

I'm not extremely experienced in the differences of pre-workout supplements, but I work at a school were TONS of kids take them. The standard in that weight room is C4... I know kids who weight train/cardio with no complaints, and I myself for about a month used it with no issues. Now keep in mind that pre-workout in itself is not going to yield you muscle gain/etc.. But if it gives you the energy to perform better (placebo effect like pug mentioned) then that in turn will give you a better workout yielding better results. I found that a cup of coffee gave me the same energy, and all my other macro/micros came from my diet. I just remember some kids taking jacked and 1MR, etc.. and they were sweating like crazy, constantly itchy, dizzy, etc.. and that's just not good IMO.
