CO State Rep. Diana DeGette (D) "I will tell you these are ammunition, they’re bullets, so the people who have those now they’re going to shoot them, so if you ban them in the future, the number of these high capacity magazines is going to decrease dramatically over time because the bullets will have been shot and there won’t be any more available."

Again, how much can they really care about this issue if they can't spend an hour learning the terminology? When I have to get up and defend a intellectual position/opinion in front of a room of people I do everything I can to understand the material as much as is reasonably possible, and that sometimes goes into weeks to months of preparation. She's getting up in front of potentially millions of people and can barely spell her own last name.
Basic firearms operation and terminology wouldn't take but a few minutes and one of her aids could do the research for her (them).2 + 2 = 5 (for extremely large values of 2)

They do their parties bidding so the plan was already laid out, she just had to push it. Further many of the policies being pushed are put forth by lobbyists who have a dog in the fight. Sadly to few people in any line of work these days actually consider the ramifications of their actions beyond what they are told.

Party or not I wouldn't want to look like a dumbass up there. There are some defensible arguments for gun control, liberties aside. Why not go after something that is marginally sound?

I'm going to try and remember to pull a few mags out this evening and see if they have anything about them that is register-able. I don't think they are required to stamp them with anything and I don't think there is any requirement to preserve or not obscure any stampings that might be on the body. Aside from that, I'm not exactly sure what registering magazines is supposed to accomplish from an immediate practical standpoint. It's not like magazines leave a signature on a round so, well, it's just weird.

What it does is to allow the politician to get votes from uninformed anti-gun voters.
If I lived in CT, I think I'd buy a couple of magazines and register them even though I don't own a rifle to accept the magazines. I'm sure that would screw with the mind of some bureaucrat who cross checks the gun/magazine registration lists.

Sure, I get that. But it seems there had to be some kind of conversation that led up to this making it in the language, private or public. I would really like to hear what it was, more out of sick curiosity than anything. I often ask myself are the people saying this (whatever the 'this' happens to be) stupid or do they think we are so stupid as to not see the difference, or is it both?

I'm a competitve 3 gun shooter who has been on hiatus the last few years because of burnout and family. I wanted to wait until my kids were older to get back into it, b/c it's very time and money consuming, but with these new gun bans I think competitions are going to die out. Why? Because even though most places except NY aren't taking guns and magazines away from anyone, they're preventing new shooters from aquiring them thereby slowly strangling a sport that for most part is made up of older shooters.

I just checked a couple of my 30 rd P-mags and there are no marks other than type of rd it holds, manufacturer and the part number. there are no serial numbers or anything so how would it even be possible to register something like this and who would be asinine enough to actually bring theirs in for this stupid law?

Picked up a Tapco stock for my SKS, oh no now it's going to be a scary black gun.
And slowly but surely ammo is becoming available again. AR's are easily obtainable for normal prices as well, few more weeks and we should be back to business as usual."You know that little thing in your head that keeps you from saying things you shouldn't? Yeah, well, I don't have one of those."

DHS just started buying up ammo again...few million they are trying to stock up on. I am beginning to think they are forcing shortages just long enough to go to war with US citizens.

A great article by Thomas Sowell. I'm sure I'm a racist for posting it.
Amid all the heated, emotional advocacy of gun control, have you ever heard even one person present convincing hard evidence that tighter gun control laws have in fact reduced murders?

I tend to not believe its about arming for marshal law type situation, nor about the government trying to take (more?) control. I think its simply a way the lefties in office can inflict some pain on all the evil law abiding, gun owning racist homophobes by depriving them of their ammo, or at least making it as expensive as possible. The idea that that silly, antique piece of paper will not allow them to take the guns outright has them stomping their feet and saying "Oh yeah, well then good luck getting ammo!".
There is nothing honest about this administration. There is something very dishonest about all administrations IMO, but this one is far and away the shadiest.I'm a sad little man

Well, those were the predictions. They have attempted hard taxation on ammo in the past and failed, and they were going to attempt it again when all the gun legislation was stopped, so this is actually quite a good guess as to what exactly they are trying to do. Problem is, people still bought, even at $1 per round of .223, by the thousands, mind you.
