But at the gym, only the really swole guys are benching more than 225 and the people benching 180 actually look pretty big compared to the misc.

Either people on this site are always frauding hard or everyone here has great strength to mass genetics.

Its not what people look like they can bench that determines how much they can bench. Ive seen huge guys benching about 265lb for 3-4 reps (much bigger than me) and I can do 290 for ~9

I look small in the shirts I train in and 225's are fuking easy.

My gym buddies who also go down the powerlifting rather than bodybuilding path also don't look enormous. SIZE != STRENGTH and vice versa

225 lbs for reps doesn't mean chit. If you can't 1RM 315 regularly, you're nothing. No hate, I still haven't hit that level, but until there's three plates on your bench, you ain't chit.
