    Laptop for College? (reps)

im looking for a new laptop for college. my current toshiba simply wont do. needs to be

    -under 1k
-able to run lower end games such as half life and its various mods
-sleek, silent (my current computer sounds like a goddamn jetliner)
-portable enough to take to various classes
    -long battery life

    any brand/make/model recommendations?

edit: IM NOT GETTING A PUSSY ASS MAC. BRB DROPPING 1,500 FOR A FUKKING LOGO AND SHINY CASE

Most laptops over $700 perhaps would do the job for you. Surprising how decent cheap laptops are.
Recommended you get an i5 as opposed to an i3(benefits are there trust me). I'd also say avoid HP brand too(if you don't want their program's, otherwise decent laptop)

Asus is nice, but if you aren't looking for too many games which im sure you arent... you mentioned only half life 2 and stuff.. rofl that stuff can run on a 2 year old laptop with intel pentium 4 or something. rofl.

    anyway.

the HP i listed is a nice overall computer.

    Asus is def nice too.

Its your choice between asus and hp imho.

asus. this one isnt so bad. it has a dedicated Video card to assure you gaming performance for higher end games like battelfield albeit not the best it will do great.

dont sleep with your computer then. lol. I still have a 10 year old HP laptop that still works like a charm. I use it for cracking and what not with a linux based OS now.. but still. My experience is that HP has had a solid performance. I guess i just got lucky.

the HP one i posted before has an integrated graphics card, so it will be slimmer, but performance will drop a little.

The Asus has a dedicated gfx so it's going to be a thicker/heavier laptop for sure i think. You can always look at the spex.

for sure though, the HP one is only like 4lbs. and thin as fk. The integrated graphics card will run diablo III no problem. Just lok at the specs and google it.

Be like Counter Strike Source on intel HD Graphics 4000 or whatever hl2 game u are playing. probably pro mod or global offensive. But still.

Probably good advice lol. Yeah, I think some of their builds are stronger than others -- not every model they produce is great, but not every one is a pos. My mom only buys low-end ones for typing documents up, so that's (I'm assuming) the reason I have had a bad experience with em.

yeah. we usually buy mid to high end laptops if we do. Around 1k + ... we like our quality to last which it has shown too.

    Macbooks are amazing for WORK.

if you do music. you do movies you do WORK and not much games...

    macbook would be for you...

thats why they have all dem professional companies using a mac...

the Mac OS is kind of like Linux. It's a low cost running OS which leaves more power and memory for running other apps.

Windows is filled with addons to make it user friendly.

It's all about what you want though.

I prefer my Windows and my Linux over windows. Mac comes last. Hell ill buy a mac if it comes to the point where im making videos on the daily.

    ASUS is good stuff.

    Buy a 15" no bigger.
Not all 3rd degree burns look like that..I did get a skin graft for it, albeit small. Pics to be had if you don't think I'm srs.

thats why they have all dem professional companies using a mac...

the Mac OS is kind of like Linux.

Ah yeah have heard about professional industries using OS X (some rumors sprouted that Microsoft uses Macs to make their commercials, but I doubt it). I've played around with them at the Apple store but I dont know, doesn't really seem like its right for me.

Must be hit and miss. I've had a dell laptop for 3 years and not a single issue.

Get a macbook pro 13inch when there is some sale.. I got my airbook 2 years ago and never failed me, it still runs like new and has never crashed on me in past 2 years. The only people which say macbooks are waste of money are the people which never had one, i bet you won't go back to normal laptops after you get your first macbook..

Op your best bet is to look at ultrabooks. They are thin, light come with a good processor and usually have a ssd. Some have a graphics card. If you want a macbook you could pirate OS X and have it for half the price. Do some research on companies before you buy and read lots of reviews from reliable sources.

    Good luck
