Question Just starting out - purchase 8" or 10" log?

Hi guys, I just wanted to know, for someone who is going to start with logs, what size would be the best to start off with? I have the choice of selecting an 8" 90lb steel log, or a 10" steel 70lb log; both are the same price. I assume the former log is a bit sturdier. Should I start with the 8", then purchase the 10", or should I just start training with the 10" straight away? Thanks.

Unless you're a little girl, go with the 10".

    I would save for a 12" log

    (assuming you are male)

If you can press a 12" log, you can press a 10" log. Most contests have a 12" log.

If you have no desire to compete, the 10" would be the way to go.

I can only seem to find a 10" log in my area (Toronto). I'd get a 12" if I could.

If a 10" log is the largest diameter available locally then that would be my choice.

The smaller logs are a little easier to press and a little harder to clean, whereas a larger diameter log is typically easier to clean and harder to press because of how the weight is distributed. A 10" would be in-between and should work fine for training purposes.

i made the mistake of training with an 8 bc the comp said they would be using one...get to the show and low and behold its a 12 lol... it took me quite a few practice lifts backstage just to get familiar with the difference. id def go with a 12 if possible
