Trutein has a cult-following on the forums. It is often touted as the best tasting protein around, yet it remains relatively unknown to the masses. I doubt you will ever find it at your local GNC, for example. Aside from the taste, a few other items caught my eye.
- It is low lactose. Less than .5g per serving.
- It is a blend, containing Whey, Micellar Casein and Egg White proteins.
Digest-ability: Pass
I ordered a few samples from their website: chocolate peanut butter, cinnabun, and chocolate banana. Not so much to test the flavors, but to see how my stomach reacted, as many protein powders upset my lactose intolerant stomach. Well, no gases or bloating here. Flavor-wise, I loved the cinnabun and chocolate peanut butter. I decided to order a 5 lb. tub of the latter:
Nutritional Profile:
115 Calories / 1.5g Fat / 5g Carbs / 23g Protein
Solid.
Taste: 9/10
It tastes like a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup. Plain and simple. Great balance of peanut and chocolate. Something that I appreciate quite a bit after buying a tub of Dymatize Elite Gourmet in the same flavor (faded peanut taste, forget the chocolate). Not crazy strong or sweet, but by no means weak either.
With Milk: 10/10
With whole milk in a shaker bottle this **** is phenomenal. Liquid Reese’s. Mixed easy, no clumps.
With Oats: 8/10
In a bowl with oats it is a bit different than any protein powder I have used before. Because it is so fluffy it requires more milk than I normally use. And a bit more time and effort to stir it in. But once mixed in, alongside some chunky peanut butter, it is amazing.
Price: ~$55
You can definitely find cheaper alternatives, but for the quality you get here I believe it is worth the cost. To order a tub, head over to the reseller section of the website. Samples are available for a couple bucks as well.
Overall: 9/10
Best tasting protein I have ever tried, hands down. If you like Reese’s, order a tub now. If you do not like Reese’s, you have issues. Or peanut allergies. Next up, Cinnabun.

Solid review man, I agree this stuff is delicious - easily my favorite protein powder. I thoroughly enjoy all of the flavors.
If you get a chance, I would definitely recommend checking out the Vanilla. It's incredible for a such a seemingly simple flavor (that quite a few brands seem to 'miss the mark' on) and perfectly spot on for what a Vanilla should taste like IMO.NASM Certified Personal Trainer and Nutritionist

Did you order it from the trutein site itself?
BB.com discontinued trutein (which was a very poor decision)...... btw cinnabun is only one i have tried. if you have a swaet tooth and like cinamin rolls - this is perfect.... considering choc/pb but cinnabun is soo good.
Where do I get my trutein now? - cannot go on without.... ha

Fantastic review, dcdlm! Your blog looks fantastic as well!
Trutein reveals that you are getting 40% whey, 40% casein, and 20% egg white. Milk Protein Isolate is listed on the label, but it is actually made up of whey and casein. If the amount of this were provided instead, it would be unclear how much whey and casein were in the blend. Listing the amount of whey and casein takes the guesswork out of it. Take a product like Beast Whey for example. Several types of protein are grouped into a blend (Whey Protein Concentrate, Whey Protein Isolate, and Hydrolyzed Whey Protein Isolate). This moves the ingredients up the hierarchy of the label, which gives the appearance that there are more of other protein sources in the powder, when in reality the blend is primarily whey concentrate. The balanced ratio of each protein source is one of the features that makes Trutein so unique. You will certainly not be disappointed if you make a purchase in the future.
bb.com has essentially been collecting a mass amount of Trutein before it returns to the store. It will be back in about a week. It's usually backordered within a day or two of getting restocked, but bb.com will be very well stocked to prevent this from happening.Last edited by BetterThanLife; 12-13-2012 at 05:49 PM.

That is exactly what I tell people! The flavors are very true to their name. If you like peanut butter cups then you'll love Choc PB Cup Trutein, whereas if you prefer cinnamon rolls then you will be more satisfied with CinnaBun Trutein.
