Only thing I haven't seen mentioned is
Treme (same people from The Wire, isn't crime drama, so there's that, but incredible show)
Rome (some, including me, say it's better than Game of Thrones, watch it, won't regret)
Carnivale, (i haven't watched it but i heard good things from it)
Spectacular Spider-Man, (yes i said it, goat spider-man show, 90s spider-man is ok but this blows it away, srs)

720p looks fine on decent sized tvs, but when get 45" and more, you gotta get 1080p if you wanna really get into it, sadly some of shows mentioned aren't released on bluray,
oz, the wire, etc.
